from specs and dealer visits, the following motors appear to be similar or same:
rav4 - camry - solara 2.4L DOHC
corolla - matrix - (celica?) 1.8L DOHC
echo 1.5L DOHC (same block as 1.8 with different induction sys?) - not much room under hood, great little motor on paper, cool interior!
Do these vehicles share lots of common parts, transmissions?
Could the 2.4 & 1.8 be swapped?
Toyota has the hottest lineup of small FWD motors!!
Any further info would be great!!

I would not go as far as saying that. There are better engines out there, or at least as good, in your category
the RXS type s K20
srt4 engine 2.4L
the 4g63 in the evo
the EJ20 and EJ25 in the WRX and STI

Well the rav4 - camry - solara all use the same engine, so yes it could be swapped between models, just like the Corrola and Celica (the celica us built on the Corrola chassis). Infact in Japan, here in NZ and in europe there is a T Sport Corrola, with the 180hp Celica engine in it, and suspension and brake up grades to cope.
And I belive the engine in the Echo is a smaller version of whats in the Corrola, but don't quote me on that.
As for parts sharing, well toyota has been doing that since the 70s, along with most other manufactors. It includes everything from brakes and suspension parts, to interior switchs and bits of trim.
