Once again I knew it was comming :mad:. But thats ok, cuz it only makes me want to make my car faster.

Anyway, I pulled up to a light next to a Z06. I didn't rev or anything we just both sat there. When the light turned green he peeled out, I peeled out and then he was gone...

He absolutely killed me in 1st gear. Once I chirped my wheels (feathered the clutch at 2500 RPM's) I began to put the gas pedal to the floor, but once it was there and I hit V-Tec my wheels started slipping? The tires only have 7k miles on them? Anyway, I didn't stand a chance but once my tires started slipping he gained like 3 cars on me, and he already had like 1.5 just from the first few thousand RPM's of first. I shifted to second and chirped my tires again. He shifted to second and a huge puff of smoke came from his tires so I know he was trying.

Once I got into second and my tires kept traction it wasn't as bad as I thought. He only pulled another 3 cars or so from 60-100 at which point I cut it off.

In total he beat me by about 8 cars from 0-100. I think if I had better traction I could have kept it a car length or so closer. I just couldn't compete with all that power and traction he had in the beginning. it was fun though and the guy wasn't a jerk about it he was just wanting to play in his toy and I can respect that because thats all I was wanting to do.

Oh yeah before I came up on the corvette there was a Chevy S10 Extreme that was trying to race me, he attempted to keep up with us, lets just say it wasn't pretty :rofl:

In total he beat me by about 8 cars from 0-100. I think if I had better traction I could have kept it a car length or so closer. I just couldn't compete with all that power and traction he had in the beginning.

You have a ~ low 15 sec car vs the Zo6 which is a mid 12 sec car...you don't measure this distance in car lenghts you measure it in mumerous bus lenghts.

the 8 cars he put on you means he did not try his max or he was not a very good driver.

and you think with traction you could have kept up within a car lenght...funiest statement ever

oh and fyi the problem is not the traction and the power he had in the begining....at any speed the zo6 would leave your accord like it was standing still

I stand corrected that it was not a z06 ( Thank god). I looked at the wheels on a z06 and this one did not have those wheels. The wheels on this one looked like the Centerline RPM's. I appologize to you guys and the car gods for my ignorance:p.

Low 14's (as in 14.1-14.2) has been achieved with the Accord V6 six-speed. The automatic, 4-dr, fully-loaded EX version was recently tested by Motor Trend at 14.8.

I appologize for my language, but why do you think I drive a sedan? And mathematically the "~" stands for roughly, you are correct; however, you were not roughly in the right numerical range.

Yes the cougar is more than adequate transportation since I am currently in college.

It is also an adequate performer at the local AutoX events

i don't know what 1/4 it runs since i don't drag race...it would be a waste of time in my car anyway

however it does quite well in autox which is what i do anyway

For the guy w/ the accord, your car is fast, but please do not compair it to a vette by an estimated distance. From you degrees or highschool physics you should know F=ma and figure out your car doesn't come close. HP:Weight ect.

I do know that accords can burn the hell out of the tires and even if you have traction when vtec hits you can break loose a little.

These guys are just picking on you and for good reason. Maybe because of all the other day dreamers that think their civic and eclipses can take a car with twice the hp. Seems like and endless battle until you take your car to the track for 20 bucks and scan the time sheet. Simple fix to argument!!!

I agree that never in my wildest fantasies could my accord beat a vette and I appologize to any vette owners if they felt I was doing this, and you're also right that it is a little ridiculous to put a distance on such an unfair match up. But it is fun to race them still :naughty:

From my own experience at the drag strip I can tell you that the difference between a flat 13 sec and a flat 14 sec quarter with a 10 Mph difference is about 8 car lengths.

So I would agree with the others that the Z06 just wanted to get away from you - no offence but to anything less than a Cobra or a modded Pony Car its really not worth it to waste the gas under WOT.

From my guess, it is how fast you are moving when you finish a given distance. If this is the case my car runs ~98mph trap speed in the 1/4. And if it makes any difference this is with out the mods.

The main thing you need to know about trap speeds is that they are a very good indicator of the car's power.

1/4 mile times can be botched easily due to a bad launch and launching is by far the hardest thing in drag racing

for example a car that runs the 1/4 mile in 14 sec and has a trap speed of 110. Is a car that launched very badly and lost a lot of time but due to its tremendous power levels it managed to reach a very hight speed at the end of the 1/4

so in a nushell

trap speed = a car's acceleration capabilities
1/4 mile = a cars traction of the line + driver skill + the car's acceleration capabilities

alright children my Lanos does 0-60 in 9.5 so lets just end it right there. dont even try me; my 1.6L 4-cylinder E-TEC will demolish you. I have 185/40R/14s on my car so dont even test me in the corners. Also, my 4speed automatic transmission will get up to ~165, yes that sounds about right. the aerodynamics of my vehicle are second to everything else on the road except the beautiful Mitsubishi Fuso cargo truck. Seeing as I can sometimes manage to almost chirp the tires into first, I wouldn't recommend a burnout contest, also if u try to challenge me to a drift ill just pull up in my 1993 Plymouth Colt Vista with side sliding door and cracked head. Prepare to see white smoke from the tires, not to mention the engine area, footwell, exhaust pipe, and numerous other areas. But if you really want to get serious in the 1/4 mile, you better get ready for my 2000 Pontiac Montana. With just over 185hp and a lean 4000 lb curb weight, it will beat any buick century(unless its a "custom") :nono:
