Can anyone help me out with this. I am looking to get a 96-00 civic hatchback in the US and what would I need to do to make it right hand drive? I was thinking if I bought a whole B16B civic type-r half cut front end can i just switch all the parts over to the USDM civic hatchback without any problems? I think this would be alot cheaper then importing a civic type-r over and it would also be alot easier to register the car. Please help me out with this and I would like to see what you think.

You can buy a ctr front clip for $4200, but personally I wouldn't trust having my car cut in half and welded back together. Having a rhd car in the states is retarded anyways, such a waste of money. You'll feel cool at shows or whatever, but then having to deal with drive-thrus and shit would just get annoying. Kinda like my racing seats, they look great and work even better, but while doing everyday things the harnesses are a pain in the ass. Just swap the engine and keep it lhd, trust me... think about resale value also.

im constantly thinking about how cool it would be to have a RHD prelude (or anything for that matter). but i never thought about any of that crap, like drive thru's and stuff.
when he talks about buying an entire front clip i think he means just taking all of the parts off and making it RHD with parts alone and not just weilding the whole thing. is this even possible? could you do a rhd conversion with parts from a front clip? im pretty uninformed about this altogether and i have no use for the knowledge but curiosity has taken me over.

I'm sure you could because all the front clips I've seen have gone as far back as right behind the shifter. It would be a elephant's shitload of work.

You don't cut the car in half.
You have to remove the LHD firewall, and replace it with the RHD one, then swap over the streeing rack from the RHD along with the dash, all underdash and engine harness. It can be done in a couple days by someone that is experianced, but I also don't see the point. If you want a RHD IMO it would be better to spend the money and at least have a real one.

Yeah a rhd conversion doesn't make a car jdm. It's still just a usdm (or Canadian I guess, since it was made there) car with a rhd hackjob. Same goes with my car, it's not a civic type r now that it has the engine.

hey thanks for the help. I was not planning to do any welding on the car at all. I was just going to swap parts over, but I didnt know how difficult was the job. With all the stock parts that I took off I was just going to sell it over the internet to make my money back. I didnt think about the hassel of drive throughs and everything, but who eats drive though everyday. I found out how much for a real CTR and it was about $15K. Does anyone know where I can get a a front clip for cheap or a good price with good customer service? Thanks for the help again!

I stil don't understand why, on gods beautiful planet, anybody would want to convert to rhd. If its for a show car i guess your kinda dumb anyway cause you're into that. If you just want something on the right, by an old mail jeep. I was stationed in japan for a year and i saw some great stuff. I think its kinda funny how there are kids over here trying to copy how they do it in japan and then the japanese think its cool how we f**k up our cars over here and now there trying to copy it over there. What is wrong with the world? Just make your car kwik and look good, not crazy with a super fighter black midget nightcrawler ninja kombat body kit. Subtle and understated beuty is sexy. Have you ever seen an import in the want ads that has like 20 grand of work done to it and the car never sells for what the owner feels its worth? thats cause people don't think the s**t looks good.
I'm not trying to rip on anybody here but, come on why would you want to do this stuff.

bjfm, didn't you know, if you switch it to RHD it drops 3 seconds off the 1/4 putting you into the high 16's :)
I would take this as for nostalgia factor?
I couldn't justify doing so much work for being able to drive in the passenger seat. If you really want you, you might just want to see if you can pick one up on ebay...
