96 sho electrical problems

my 96 sho seems to think my drivers door is open all the time
the dome lights stay on and the "door ajar" light stays on
with all the doors closed and the key in on the off setting makes the dinging noise it would make if my door was open
i took the dome light relay out to prevent killing my battery
any suggestions

ok this is odd but i just went out to start the car this morning and this is no longer a problem
wtf is up with that

i asked the question here because im pretty sure the electrical system for the dome lights is the same for non sho's
someone could have had the same problem with their lx or gl

Try looking for a little plunger on the door frame, if there isnt one the switch is in the door latch. Ford rangers are known for this problem. The switches dont completely open, so the door open chime goes off even if they are closed. Try spraying WD 40 in the latch, it might help

yeah mine is in the latch and the chime goes off when the door is closed and the light on the dash stays on but sometimes it shuts off and works fine
