I was reading the "Staged Power Upgrades" on 3si.org and was wondering what "Magnecor KV85 8.5mm plug wires" and "NGK plugs" were? And would the recomended upgrades on the site be "good" to follow? Thanks.

P.S. Yes, I'm new to this stuff.

NGK spark plugs are essential. Don't get the Bosch +4, you need something to keep your engine cool to avoid damage to it. Personally, I think NGK copper or platinum are the best spark plug for any import car.

Spark plug wires aren't as important, especially 'performance' wires. Just get some new wires if your old ones look dingy, because any thicker wire won't create more power. Your stock ignition system is fine until pretty high hp levels.

I would say those people know what they're doing, so follow their directions closely if you plan on going far. Missing a step usually is an engine killer.

You write that a thicker wire wont create any power, in the same way that lighter rims, or a CF driveshaft, or lightwiehgt flywheel wont create power. You do end up with more power to the wheels or in this case, more power to the plug, which can in turn fire in a higher boost scenario.

You are correct, but thicker wires don't do much for the car until you go above 17-18psi of boost.
