New to Honda

Ive been a muscle car fanatic for a while now but driving my 72 olds 442 just isnt practical so ive decided to go the import route. As a mechanic ive been impessed with hondas quality and huge aftermarket. Naturaly a cheap civic would be good to start with. I am looking at buying a 95 civic whith a b15 motor. I dont want to go to crazy with this car but as all motorheads and a daily 442 driver I cant drive a stock 4 banger around and not feel like a little girl. Suspension isnt a problem its pretty cut and dry there but as far as honda motors go i need some help. I want to stay NA simply because i cant afford 4k for a turbo kit. So one question i have is if there is any chance of doing anything with the b15 without any bottom end work(must minimize down time) or if i should maybe look at a different year model civic with a different motor (havent been able to find an si in my price range). I am also having some trouble finding stock specs. If anybody could through a few links my way it would be greatly apreciated. Looking foward to some feedback. Thanks

Just kidding.. the D15's in those cars put down about 95-105 hp to the wheels, and have about a 6,800 redline. The only way you're going to get any real power out of that engine would be with a turbo, sorry. Even then you'd only have about 160-190 hp. I love that model Civic, but unless you plan on swapping out the engine or boosting the stock lawnmower engine, you're going to "feel like a little girl."

Honda engine swaps are relatively super easy in the automove world.. Try visiting one of these websites for engine prices. If I were you I'd get the 160hp B16A1 complete swap for $1,500 from hmotors.

It sounds like you know how to turn your wrenches, so you could most likely do it yourself if you've got an engine lift, impact wrench, and basic hand tools. It took me and a buddy a weekend to install my engine which isn't too much downtime at all.

your best bet would be swap in a Integra B18B1 DOHC non-vtec LS motor, very cheap, reliable, and they will put you in the mid 15's stock

Yeah or that.. there are a handful of engines he could swap with, but the best bang for the buck would be a b16. I gave him a list of sites to dig around and think about, but the main point was a swap is the answer for a d15 Civic because they're crappy bases for performance whether n/a or boosted.

Yea, you want to get your base motor a good one, get a good starting point incase in another year you deside to go turbo or go crazy :) im a huge fan of the LS motor but the B16 is a very awsome motor it has awsome R/S ration so you can rev the hell out of it plus it makes good power just not alot of TQ but then if you are looking for TQ you wont find much in a Honda. Desision is up to him if he even wants to do a motor swap, but for the price of a LS motor or even a B16 its well worth it. a turbo D15 will push probably the same HP as a stock B16
