Quick question on wiring under hood...

Underneath where you put water/anti-freeze, there's this little electric connection that I don't know what is for. My car is a 2.0 DOHC Turbo just if you needed to know the way it looks. But at that connection the wires are cut and only the plug is there with two wires on the other ends. Anyone know what its for?

does your water temp gauge work? i'm not positive on where its at on the 1g but if your temp gauge doesnt work i'll bet its that! either that or do the 1st gen cars have a low coolant warning light, that could be a trigger for that also...

Yes, if you mean the wire comes off the coolant reservoir, then that is the low level light. Hard to figure this stuff out over the internet though, there are several other wires in that area. If you can get a pic that would help.

Um, well its actually on the pipe where the coolant goes, not near the reservoir. My temp gauge works fine... but my car was overheating a couple days ago. Whenever I just sat there idling, it got warm, but when I would driver it would cool down. Could it be some kind of power that triggers the thermostat?

If you're describing where I'm thinking about, the wire harness that has 2 wires is the "low coolant" sensor IF it goes into the coolant resevoir tank. The one with 4 wires in that area is the cooling fan power (2 wires) and the a water temp sensor (2 wires).

If the fan switch was disconnected it could cause overheating while sitting there. Do the fans come on? And I though the fan switch was on the radiator on 1Gs though...

yea, rysbrnr, it was the low coolant sensor... i guess whoever had the car before me cut the wires, maybe the light was always on, and they didn't like it... i need to get that taken care of.
and i know the fan that's in front of the exhaust manifold wasn't working. i looked into it and i noticed that at the connection, where that little rectangular cage thing is... there's a soldered connection... well it came off... so im gonna have to solder it back on...
plus there's a hairline crack on the top of the radiator... i put some jb weld, think that's good enough? im gonna take it for a driver tomorrow, since i gotta go to work now, and afterwards i got to go to church... we'll see... thanks all. :)
