This guy that I work with is always talking about racing my 3000GT SL and im like man I would destroy you in your little RS with the fart cannon. So he comes into work yesterday and hes like im buying NOS and im going to kill you. I would imagine with that shitty ass engine hes going to blow himself to pieces or destroy the car. I know a GS-T or GS-X could handle it but an RS...gimmie a break. If he does it im probably going to fuck up my launch laughing so hard. :disappoin

I love 2nd gen eclipses, but I like the GST, GSX and turbo'd models, the rs and gs models, unless turboed are slow as shit. I used to beat them in my jeep cherokee. I just found it funny that someone would put NOS on a 130 HP car with no real mods except that just to beat me. I know im not very fast but im not strapping on NOS either.

A stock RS is 140 not 130 and the HP does not ALL matter because your 3000GT weighs more. Torque is important too.

I remember when my RS was completely stock. Its automatic, and yet I still smoked a lot of cars (mx-6, civic si, precidia, focus) it all depends on the driver.

If its installed correctly he'll whip your car not to mention nitrous its almost instant. The 420a engine can handle nitrous easily.

OMFG, i drive a RS with Dry ntirous (compucar) bad choice by the way, i went into that blind. but not only does my little car take 300gts, but how i drive and how my car is set up i hang with slightly modified mustang gts, and who ever said thier automatic GS smoked a civic SI, well they cant drive cause i own a SI also and it east my eclipse when not running my Nitrous. ANd also im selling my system because i just bought a twin bottle zex kit, and selling my compucar kitfor 350$ full kit /w nozzles. msg me on AOl or MSn

actually a 2nd gen RS can handle up to 270hp @crank with stock internals with no problems. of course the amoun tof wear on the car and engine condition would make it vary....

270hp is a little much but you can think whatever you want to... when i dynoed my car i was sitting at 225hp with 10psi, now when i blew it i was running 15psi, so there is no way i will make 50hp in 5psi...

well my mother recently got a 97 Eclipse RS and she wanted to mod it but through research found there isnt much you can do with a none turbo eclipse to make good power except get a very expensive turbo kit. i called Hahns Racecraft @ (630) 801-1417 and asked them some questions about reliability and how much boost to run and how much the motor could handle without unreliability issues and they told me up to 270hp @ crank with stock internals. They could be wrong but seeing as they do this for a living there probably a little right. Personally i dont see why it couldnt handle 270hp @ crank. The only thing about the eclipse engine that worries me and it was the same thing that worried me about my 951 too, was the balance shaft. When i drove her car her belts started squiling like pigs within a few hours of her owning it and found out the balance shaft belt tensioner is not up to par and the belt has noticable wear. Which you probably know if the balance shaft belt hoes out can easily tangle with the timing belt and create a failure which would be bad.

My mother doesnt care either way but she wants to do shit to it and i told her not to rice it out and get real performance mods. Im gonna try to build my own kit, the kits i seen are way overpriced.

Plus she wants to be able to take my 951. i already raced he on the highway and smoked the shit out of her. she cant drive my 951 to see what it feels like to drive cause she cant drive a stick.

can you beat stock GSTs and GSXs with your 951? sorry i have never driven one or raced one so i wouldnt know... but if you piece together a kit for her you can get a nice one together for around $2000 and she will be able to boost up to 10psi (NO MORE) or bye bye motor... now with that you should be a little quicker than a stock GST if tuned right, atleast thats how i was, maybe it was just the drivers but i dont know... i'm not professional or anything but i feel i can drive my car pretty damn good! now if you build the motor thats a different story, now your talkin $$$! :iceslolan but its all worth it IMO! good luck too you and her!

I never raced a GST or GSX before but im pretty sure i could take them w/ 951. GST & GSX would be a fair race considering that my car is a turbocharged 8V SOHC 2.5L Inline 4. I dont know at what RPM those cars make peak hp & TQ. 951's arent very good drag cars. stock the 951 is rated at: 217 bhp @ 5800 rpm & 244 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm
0-60 in 5.9 sec & 1/4 in 14.3 sec.

It doesnt look to impressive for todays figures but back in the 80's when it was in production it was very good figures. It was quicker in acceliration & top speed than the Corvette & Ferrari. Also was best handling production car in the USA. 951's are great cars and repond very well to mods pretty much any turbo car responds well to mods. for $250 you can get a chips set for 951 (DME/KLR) and you got 50+hp & 50lbs tq gain (@crank). Just a chip set makes a difference in these cars because Porsche designed the cars to roll on and off boost smoothly and factory boost setting is 10.9psi. Chip allows the turbo to make boost as soon as it can and most set the boost from 10.9psi to 15psi max.

On 951's you dont want to launch it very often cause you chance breaking a CV which i dont mind because id rather break a CV than a transmission. I usually do either 30MPH-60MPH rolls or highway runs.

Vette & Ferrari had more than 217bhp but 951 was still faster. 951 had less power than alot of cars but still was able to outperform them.

first of all a gs or an rs eclipse is slow as hell, i was dang near neck and neck with one in my moms contour sport v6 24 valve. he beat me by aobut 1 foot we raced 3 times i won 1. second just cause womone has nos doesn't mean they can beat any car, i beat an integra with nitrous before, nitrous will only take off about 1 sec off your 1/4 no more than 2 so if you run the 1/4 in 16.7 you'll probly drop to about 15.3 still not as fast as a stock gsx.

Lol... sad. I'm sorry, but an SL will run circles around an RS... And to those of you who think nitrous is god... you're wrong. It will shave about a second off your 1/4 time. A stock GS run's mid 16's in the 1/4.... an SL runs 15. And 16.5-1=15.5... so therefore, the SL still comes out on top. Sorry =)

Rob, you didn't really answer my concern. I wasn't serious about racing; i was trying to rise above those dumb statements of 'ill race you' PLUS nobody was talking about a VR4 being slow, so you weren't being insulted or anything.

Oh and FYI the z06 isn't stock either, but it doesn't matter who would win, there are always faster cars. I have a friend with a twin turbo LS1, another with a nitro dragster, and a Diablo VT. You can beat a lot of good cars, be glad that you can- it's why you spent all that money :)

I have to disagree, they have the best drivetrain in the world. but they bought a US company that designed it. The supra has had over 900hp on stock internals, the 3000GT has had over 800. In the 1/4 mile the supra has the best engine / drivetrain, not the skyline. The reason the skyline is so cool is because we cant have one in the US.

I've always looked down upon Nitrous. I dunno to me it seems like cheating.

I dont consider Nitrous cheating because its another form of forced induction. If nitrous is cheating than so is Turbochargers & Superchargers.

When you street race you are racing all kinds od setups. There are no rules in street racing nor are there race classes that would prohibit certains things. The only time you can make sure the cars are in same class would to race at a legal track that or creat your own organized street racing made up of classes and do engine inspections just like the legal racing.

I do however dont like when people just buy a car thats stock a hook up a nitrous kit and brag about them being quick cause any jack@$$ can have a nitrous kit installed. If the car is actually built up and then has a nitrous kit i do respect that.
