Popping noise in windshield

I have a 2000 Chevy Tahoe. Occasionally I hear a popping noise that sounds like a rock hitting the windshield. This can happen even when I'm driving anywhere from 5 mph to 50 mph in situations where there is no possible way a rock can hit the windshield. I have no idea what could be causing this. It happens occasionally. Please help.

My ford p/u has been doing that for years. But only when the a/c is on.It was explain to me that it had something to do with the expansion and contracting of something or other under the dash. Usualy only once and on a hot day.

Man, I glad someone else has the same problem. I have a 2001 Tahoe and When I hit about 55 mph, it sounds like bugs or rain hitting the windshield. It's the darndest thing, I can't figure it out.....

I guess what I should of also put in my reply was, do you have this problem only when the a/c is on, just curious. My Ford only does it when the a/c is on. I have a 2001 Hoe also and never heard this.

...Scott, I had the same problem and after doing a couple of searches on the internet I found the culprit of the noise. It actually only developed after installing a Bugflector It appears the Bugflector buffets the air against the windshield molding that runs on both sides of the windshield and creates constant snapping noise (it acutally sonded like hail hitting the windshield). I brought it back to the dealer and they ran some beads of silicone underneath the molding so that they don't flap against the windshield creating that annoying noise. Not sure if this is the same problem that the other guys are having.
Hope this helps!

You're Right. I took my tahoe (back to where I got the bug deflector) last week. Apparently this is a common problem with Tahoes and yukons have. The installer put some what looked like plumber's putty inside of the plastic stripping on both sides of the windshield, you can't see it, it's very neat. It immediately fixed the problem. It also quietened the cab a bunch, no more wind noise.....I'm glad, i finally figured this out, this problem has driving me nuts for a couple of months now.
