Transmission Problem??

Every once in a while when i first turn on my 94 grand am SE in the morning and switch it to "drive(D)" it doesn't seem to pick up the gear. Well actually it feels like it does but just very little. i can floor it and it would barely move. But if i move it to "2" i picks up. from there i move it back to "D." This is kinda weird because i only happens sometimes. Other times it picks up just fine. i have plenty of tranny fluid, so i don't know whats causing this. Can someone help?

I have the same car. Maybe your not pushing the shift lever all the way to the right spot for Drive, i noticed that mine does that sometimes, just tap it and it clicks in.

i have a 1993 grand am SE.. and mine does the exact same thing, usually when its colder out. I will put it into drive.. and although it does move when i give it gas, it is very sluggish for the first 10-20seconds or so. My transmission just went at a little under 106k.. so i don't know if these two things are related or not.
