soooo we can do somethign with bags, or a mega drop, dubs, or bigger, and just some other custom stuff? Or, does it have to be a real lowrider, one with 12'' rims, white walls, old school rwd car, wicked paint, pink dice from the rear view, and the such? I've got a Z8 that I finished, it's a low-rider, 20's flip paint, drop top, sound system. That probably can't be entered, can it?

Some great lowriders are coming! I wish I had an old school Chevy to build like slk320 and Josh.
Today I knocked over a big box in my room and found a Revell Mustang Convertible Lowrider kit. I don't even know where it came from. I never bought it. Which kinda scares me being sober 20 years (: haha!
I don't know what kind of wheels to use on the 69 Charger. Do any of you pros have any ideas on what would look good on her?

J. BarryIMO A charger is not really a car that somebody would turn into a lowrider. And id ya want a chevy kit, Go to walmart, I picked mine up for around 11 bucks. And I choose the 64 suspension on mine, Gonna make it 3 wheel, and Mica Red for the color!. I have already got the frame, And i am gettin the suspension from a friend. The car is primered and I will start sanding tomarrow. I will get pics to!

I hear ya Josh. No, the Charger is not a lowrider, but neither is a 350z or a pickup truck.
Where on the net does one find the 'rules'. Who says 'what's a lowrider and what's not.' Is there a rule that says, 'Only Impalas and Bel Airs and Caddyacks?' All I know is that I can't find them written anywhere. Sport cars are not lowriders, but Revell produced the Mustang Convertible Lowrider. Late model cars are not lowriders, but Revell produced the 94 Impala SS Lowrider.
I was under the impression that this was 'no rules' contest, that anything chopped is a lowrider.
I will be the first one to admit that I do not know much about lowriders. I am from Boston and have only seen a couple lowriders in my life, both of them were at autoshows. Yeah, I've seen the lowriders Cheeh and Chong drove in the movies. But not much more.
What I'm saying is I did not know what a REAL lowrider was and considering the lack of definition on lowriders availble to me on Feb.1, 04, I thought I would drop the Charger to the deck and make it into one. My mistake.
I'm out of this contest. I do not want to offend anyone by building a lowrider that's not a lowrider.

You're right though. The Charger is not a car that anyone would turn into a lowrider. Searching the net, you get zero results not counting this thread. There is 1 Charger 'lowrider' on cardomain.com, but I can't see how that one is a lowrider. So the chances of you seeing a '69 Charger lowrider in real life, are slim or none.
You're not the only one to say something about the Charger being a lowrider either. I got a couple PMs about it not working too.
I'll hang in and build it because I'm not a quitter. I don't expect to win or even come close. No matter. I'm building her for me.
What's phucked up is a '69 Chevy can be called a lowrider if someone knocks 2" off the stance. But a '69 Charger can't be. Why? They both have 2 doors, both have fat V8s. I don't get it. Why hasn't anyone in the world built a cool 1:1 Charger lowrider?
I just wanted to have fun building something that's not common like the Impala that almost everyone's building. I'm not a lemming. I never did what everyone else did. It's a character disorder I have.
Individualism.
A word that should be found in the Lowrider's Code if there was such a thing. I thought that's what lowriders were all about.
But I don't know squat.

Chill man, take it easy. A charger couldn't become a really good lowrider in real life because of a few reasons like it being a unibody construction, it was originally designed for going fast, it has more horsepower then style (for me anyway) and they aren't exactly the type of car you'd expect to see roll down a street and pop a high 3 wheel, mainly because they can't.
Impalas aren't the only cars that are lowriders, there are thousands of other types of cars you can make into a lowrider, why don't you make that Mustang kit? It's more a euro style then any other style of Lowrider but if people are entering models that are close enough to being, well anything you can make whatever you want for it, no one said that you can't do the Charger, just said it isn't exactly a lowrider no matter what you put on it, Chargers are pure bred Musclecars.
If it is all you have at the moment, and it is what you want to do then do it, build a 69 dodge charger lowrider, it's only a model and this contest doesn't seem to be all about proper lowriders.

I'm not upset bro. Thanks for your explaination. It helps me to understand the 'why not'.
I'm going to build the Mustang kit sooner or later but I think it's too late for this contest. But that's cool. I'm not worried about it.

Purpura, I completely agree with you about the charger. But lowriders just don't hop, dance, and three wheel. Aren't bagged pickups and the like, lowriders? you can't exactly pop a three wheel on bags? but it looks cool when you slam the ass down, and leave the front up.
Barry. There's no limit to what's a low-rider.
In My Dictionary:
Low-Rider: Any automotive vehicle that has been modified to lower and/or raise it's center of gravity.
Like, heh, I have an 1/24 peterbuilt big rig laying in a box, I can make that a low-rider, right? I mean, can you imagine a 99' peterbuilt with a turbo caterpillar roll down your street with wicked paint, airbrushed graphix, and all of a sudden you hear "WUSH!" and the truck's frame rails are a few centimeters from the ground? That would technically be a low-rider, and, god knows, ain't no way on this earth a peterbuilt like that, at that weight, would hop off the ground, or pull a three wheel :) Have fun with your models dude. Build it for yourself, like tonio said. Who cares what everyone else thinks, as long as you like it, that's all that matters dude.

a lot of ppl in the lowriding community have a strong opinion against bagged rides being called "lowriders". I'd like to think of them more as LowRods. A lowrider isn't defined by a certain car, or a certain paint...it's a style of customization...and when you put all of those things together in the right combination, only then do you end up with a lowrider...
for instance, you could have 13" knockoff wires on whitewalls, but that alone doesn't make it a lowrider. Candy paint doesn't make it a lowrider. Murals don't make it a lowrider. Hydraulics don't always mean it's a lowrider. Its a combination of everything that makes the lowrider style.
anyways, here's some progress of my entry(70 impala) i started the paint...:)

This ain't the lowrider community; it's a model car forum. If JBarry wants to build a Charger into a lowrider, then let him! Who are we to bash anyone else's project ideas? It's only plastic, have fun with it!! This is exactly the type of closed-minded bullshit that I knew would happen  !!!

I'm not saying anything bad about this Antonio, you stated it was a lowrider contest and because I spend my life around them and the lifestyle it just gets to me to see people think a car on 20" chrome rims is a lowrider, I can't help but get edgy about that because I hate cars on big rims, and I hate that people think they are lowriders.
86_sr5 - It's understandable that you would think a pickup with airbags is a lowrider are you're right about it technically being a lowrider but it is classed as a minitruck, there are alot of classes for different styles of lowriders. I have to say a Peterbuilt with hydros would be just like the Charger, can be a lowrider but it actually isn't.
There's too many different styles of lowrider cars, and most are either in alot of styles or knwon by different things, like minitrucks.
I'll make my own lowrider contest later on this year, with people from AF and from Lay ii Low, but I will be starting it from Lay it low because the model people on there actually understand lowriders alot more.

I'll trust my own 34 year old and life experience on my own judgement of a "lowrider". People tend to get trapped in a certain mindset and that limits creativity. If you don't approve, then please don't let it interfere with somebody else's creativity. There's is no "set" group of rules that people should follow in a free world these are just pieces of freakin' plastic! Again I'll say it: IT'S ALL ABOUT FUN!!!

ahhh so we must be retarded :greddy2: we dont understand lowriders.(j/k). i belive antonio already said anything goes, and in my opinion anything can be a lowrider. if you think we are so dumb then take a hike.
Robert.
All I have been trying to point out is that minitrucks and cars on 20 inch god damn rims AREN'T lowriders.
lowchrome - thanks for backing up my obvious case bro, one which everyone should be able to understand easily but some can't.
Sorry for all this Antonio, I'll leave all it alone now and won't say another word if someone wants to enter a completely different type of model, I know they are only models and they aren't real, but models play a huge role in the Lowrider lifestyle for some kids, and I guess that is why I'm gettin pissed off. I'm going to leave it all by stating the best sentence I have ever heard, from the best damn guy I have ever met, who happens to be in my car club too.

ok, so what your saying is that trucks that have heavily modified frames, suspenion pieces, and such, with a proper airbag set up isn't a lowrider? I just want to understand. Because from my point of view, a lowrider is exactly what your club has, real lowriders. BTW, I don't believe the larger, fullsize trucks are declared mini's.

02-05-2004, 02:45 PM
alright, im going to assume you were talking about the truck i was going to build, because that is the only truck that was entered. I know it wasn't a true "lowrider" first off its a newer fullsize truck. Secondly, i was gonna put airbags, lowriders have hydraulics. Thirdly i was gonna put large size chrome wheels on it rather than 14" daytons. However I was making a crazy chopped up top for it, as well as some other "lowrider" influences. Thats why I called it a non traditional lowrider. I have exited the contest because there is no way I can finish the kit in time. So its not that I dont know what a lowrider is, its just I wanted to mix it up a bit.
respectfully - Justin
ps: i really feel bad about even posting in this thread because i'm not in the contest and this thread is for contest progress not debating, sorry tonio

My low-low won't be as elaborate as most of the others' but I'll try not to disappoint anybody. I'm having paint issues at present. i have it narrowed down to 2 color schemes but that means not a whole lot right now. I do have the body ready for paint though. Hopefully Imagestation will straighten out soon and I can post some decent pics. :)

Pink Panther Lowrider!
W00W00!!!
I scored the Testors' Decal Maker Kit. Then I photochopped up some Pink Panther photos. I put them together and came up with some fun decals. They should look tres.sick on my 'Mish'.
http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/2/web/482000-482999/482698_64_full.jpg
I also finished wiring the engine. What a PITA! I think it came out ok for my first try. I used the stock distributor, it has the tinyest posts, so I pulled some wires out of my pc. I think they were teh spell checka wires, so I don't kneed them much. aye? I then heated them up, bent them and attached. Knot a bad idea?
http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/2/web/482000-482999/482698_65_full.jpg
Pretty soon, if someone in the world wants to build a 1:1 Charger RT Lowrider, they'll have my model for reference
So, what do you all think? Sucks major big ones? Or is it cool?

all of these kits are looking muy dulce so far. i really like the idea of the charger, its just something diff. maybe next time there for be 2 lowrider comps. one for 'traditionals' (eg. old chevs, cads etc.), and one for contempoary lows, like minitrucks, or euro's etc.
just a thought.
i wish i had gotten my '70 impala kit sooner. i might have possbily entered....nah i doubt it...not as good as you lot.
peace out, WIDELOAD

I got it at Wal-Mart for 5.27, 1 can of bonding spray, 2 - 5 1/2" X 8" pieces of water slide paper and a cd. I think the quality is 'good' but I am new to this hobby and not a great judge. I used both pieces, the decals that I tested came out pretty good for a first timer. From what I understand, from reading around the web, any clear coat finish is a 'bonding' spray. I have yet to stick the cd into the drive, so I cannot comment on the softwarez. I grabbed the graphics off of ebay, photoshopped them and sent them to the printer. So for 5 bucks, it wasn't a bad deal. I got what I needed for this model but I don't want to do it for every custom build.
I'm now looking around for quaiity water slide paper at a good price.
FYI, I tested some HP glossy paper used to print graphics from an inkjet printer. The color quality was amazing but the decals would not slide off the paper. Still it may come in handy making decals that you could glue on or backgrounds for a diorama.
I'll test the cd when I get some WSP.

Hi. I'm still going to be in the contest but I got mad at my Buick's paintjob and in a fit of rage, I stomped on it so I have to find another kit to do. No stompin the models!!! hey T7, have you checked out that photobucket.com site yet? I think it rocks. It automatically puts in the code for forums, urls and html when you link your photos. Free too.
Kind of off topic here but here's a photo of a crown vic police interceptor that the officer that drives it lowered 3 inches all around. From Saudi Arabia.

The vic is sweet tho, we've got an Impala SS interceptor I believe, and not sure, but think there's a Z28.
