It's just an idea for a chance to have a little fun; the idea kind of popped up all of a sudden as a friendly contest between slk320 and myself and kind of snowballed from there! :iceslolan . Have fun with it! Life's too short! :)

I´m in if I can wait one week to post pics of the kit. It´s late sunday night and I´m gonna go back to the army and I will be gone all week. So I hope I´m not band from this for entering it a week too late.

This should be good. The contest is going to be interesting because everyone has a different opinions on lowriders. Some like plain and clean some like super wild.
Good idea nonetheless.

:thumbsdow I won't have a kit or more wheels until at least 1 month away, that sucks. I want to get a good model in and the next one I'm building I plan to put my best in.
I'd be happy to help out though Antonio :sunglasse If you don't get enough entries within the month then could we put this contest 1 month away starting time?

What will, exactly, qualify as a lowrider?
I've had a 1959 Impala project on deck that I was going to do in a retro-fusion sled style, with some mild shaving, a cherry burgundy paint scheme, a mildly tuned version of the kit 348 (have some stellar Offenhauser intake and exhaust parts for it) and some Pegasus Hobbies 20" Bellagios wheels I picked up at the local hobby shop.
I just never got around to really starting it. Would it qualify?

Not exactly, but Antonio didn't specify a category or Lowrider that is permitted. I would classify that 59 as a street rod or a custom, not a Lowrider. It all depends really, to me the model would at least need whitewall tires and either wire wheels or supremes, nothing else. Maximum wheel size for a modern lowrider would bave to be a scale 18" and anything underneath that size would be ok, no flamejobs, no chop tops, no big chrome wheels. This is my understanding of Lowriders, I'm not making this any part of the contest, just explaining to those who don't exactly know what a lowrider is.
Year limits would have to apply for what is a lowrider aswell, you can't exactly get a 32 ford and put wire wheels on it. A bomb would be anything from say 1938 - 1958, traditional would be 1959 - I dunno, say 1970? Modern would be anything after, I'm not sure on moderns, I don't like them alot, Traditionals and Bombas all the way :sunglasse

Would technically be a minitruck, but I guess as long as it is low it goes!
I think I will make a more strict lowrider contest a short while after this one, I'll see if I can do it in conjunction with Lay it Low too.

traditional
custom
radical
bombs

Well I don't know what you classify as a lowrider but I don't classify a Minitruck or a car sittin on 20 inch chrome rims a lowrider. I said the 59 wouldn't be a lowrider, only because it would have huge chrome rims and to me, the only people who put huge chrome rims on 59 impalas are rodders, street rodders or hot rodders.

Does it have to be a lowrider kit to start with.Or can it be a regular kit customized into a lowrider?
Purpura Delujo
02-03-2004, 06:24 PM
Why not? Alot of people make hoppers and dancers out of the AMT line of Impalas, AMT doesn't make specified lowrider kits besides the Monte Carlo and the Riviera. Antonio is doing an AMT Electra, it isn't a specified lowrider kit.

Purpura is correct! It's all about imagination, creativity, and fun!! If you mentally envision it as a lowrider, then it IS one :sunglasse

Not too late at all :sunglasse ; for those who have a disdain for this contest, I apologize for trying to stir a little interest in somebody trying to build a kit with a little creativity. Feel free to sponsor your own contest. Nah I don't really apologize. If you don't agree with what I'm doing, I don't really give a flying f^ck.
