Celica GTSX? WTF?

Ok ok, I'm PRETTY damn sure that this car doesn't exist... but I'm gonna make sure with you guys.

Some kid comes up to me and starts talkin' car trash and says Toyota made this:
Celica GTSX
AWD 3.8l car that can out-accelerate a Ninja motorcycle...

Now is it just me or is this kid completely full of it? He says it was made in japan and is "illegal to import" and such and such.

Now, I wasn't even aware that Toyota had ever made anything AWD, unless you count the 4wd pick ups they make now.

I Might Be Able To Help On Your Question On The So Called Gtsx. And I Think I Might Know Who Said That To About The Motorcycle And All. It Just Sounds All To Familiar To Me.

The Celica GT-Four is AWD, I think it's been in some rallying competitions...

yeah i have one on the way from Japan.

They are AWD with a 3s-GTE in them good for 165kw for series 4, for a series 5 (thats what im getting), and 206kw for the series 6(like the one in Mediocrity's post)

The series 5 dominated the rally in its time.

there was never a 3.8L Celica.

Maybe he meant 3.x? 3 point something...
Do they still make the GT-fours in Japan? It's one sweet ride...

Japanese cars are mostly small engines....

uhhhhh.... stock???????? its a heavily modded celica that is being marketed as a concept car.
"Toyota USA, along with Rod Millen Motorsports and Toyota Racing Development (TRD), has engineered the Ultimate Celica, a 500-horsepower, all-wheel drive powerhouse."

seems to me that Rod Millen Motorsports is resonsible for helping to mod it.

note how its listed as a prototype in the Specs and its not being produced.

it depends on what you call small really. none of them have a large displacement but they do use v8's.

What japanese CARS use v8?
a Eclipse GsX + another x
well this is what i call kiddie size

Yaggus

well V12 is excessive IMO.

Toyota and lexus both released numerous v8's

Toyota Century (V8)
Lexus SC400 (V8)
Lexus SC 430 (V8)
Mazda Cosmo (twin turbo, triple rotor)
Toyota Celsior/ Lexus LS400 (V8)
you may call them kiddie size but i wouldnt underestimate them. they have very good potential in them.

simple. All 4wheel drive celica's were rally modells. Since TOYOTA started it's F1 program the rally program stopped. and they stopped producing them. (cost reducing messures) So unless toyota stops its FI program you can stop deaming about a new celica GT4....unfortunatly ....

Yeah I think Toyota is dumb, they WERE doing pretty good in Rally, then they dropped out just to lose to Hondas, Ferraris, and BMWs. They are also stupid for dropping the Celica (one of the best selling sports compacts) for their vehicle line up next year just so they can make a BOX car/SUV/whatever the hell it is, a station wagon, and some other car that can't compare with the Celica. I love Toyota quality, but they make REALLY stupid decisions, I hope they lose sales so they can bring back some of their masterpieces from the past (MR2, Supra twin turbo, Celica GT four, etc,...). They also need to get into WRC because no one even notices the toyota drivers (in F1). Hell I can't even recall their names...

IMO, I think they should start making motorcycles hehe...

well we need to put a stop to toyota's f1 program, and get the awd celica back i mean the action package looks great but they would be nice to have an awd+turbo version that would be able to beat out any evo or wrx, i would buy that in a hart beat.

Right now, it would be kind of stupid to pull out of F1 because Ralf Schumacher is joining the Toyota team next season.

08-02-2004, 01:36 AM
well then they need to phase it out or why dont they go with both, rally and F1?

Auto_newb
08-03-2004, 01:50 AM
1) because they are putting more money into R&D for F1, instead of rally.

2)Why phase it out, they are climbing the ladder already, the drivers ARE getting better.

Well heres some news that should excite you, Apparently Toyota are making a GT4 version for the latest generation of Celica`s, one has been spotted as a concept doint test laps in germany I think it was, if it goes into production will be another thing. Start saving your money just in case.
Oh and Toyota didnt leave Rallying to go into Formula One, they got booted out from rallying for cheating, somthing to do with incorrect fuel pumps or fuel, cant recall which (i`m sure someone here will correct me on that though). I`m not sure when or if they will ever be allowed back.

REALLY? Then what about Honda? I believe they were in Rally as well, what happened to them? (I know this is a Toyota thread, I'm just curious)

I dont ever remember Honda rallying in the UK apart from private entrances, Little civic si`s did quite well in the super 1600 class and still do, just not very many of them. Maybe Honda did Rally in the States? I dont know.

Oh nm, I think they do 2 wheel rally, because I've seen a rally ver. of the integra.

Thats a new one for me, never seen one before. There are lots of rally series going on so your probably right, the only one that is really popular and gets alot of coverage is the World rally Championships, mostly 4WD monsters.

WRONG!
The Toyota Century has a V12 .. and ONLY a V12 ..
and Lexus has never made a car .. or a engine.. Lexus is Toyota .. Toyota is lexus ..
...
PS: only 2 Japanese Car makers make V8 today .. thats Toyota and Nissan..

Yes, it is true that nissan have released V8's. there is one in the Aristo.

but i have to admit that i am VERY interested to hear about this "japanese V12" that is apparently the only engine found in the century......

i was always under the impression that they were powered bythe 5V-EU V8.....

and dont try and get technical about Lexus and toyota. do they sell the same cars? no therefore they are different. just because toyota owns lexus doesnt mean they are the same. are Daewoo the same as all teh other companies that GM own? no they are not. lexus have a different product lineup, different engines and a different target market.

previously there wasnt much difference between the two but lexus is almost completely independent to toyota.

Lexus and toyota are different.

Lexus and Toyota are one and the same (for the moment)
The Lexus IS is the Toyota Altezza
The Lexus GS is the Toyota Aristo
The Lexus LS is the Toyota Celsior
The Lexus RX is the Toyota Harrier
The Lexus SC is the Toyota Soarer
The Lexus ES Is the Toyota Windom
The Lexus LX is the Toyota Land Cruiser Cygnus
The Lexus GX is a variation of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
just becaus they dont sell the Toyota versions og them where you live .. does NOT mean they dont eksist!

Yaggus: The Toyota Century has the 1GZ-FE (5liter V12)
and the Aristo is a Toyota (Lexus GS)
Nissan has a V8 in "President", "Cima"(Infiniti Q45), "Titan","Armada" and "Infiniti FX45"
Probebly some others to .. but i dont remember all

I never said that Nissan didnt. i didnt even mention them at all because i didnt know about them having V8's.

maybe in America Lexus and Toyota sell the same cars but not over here.

They dont sell a single car that is the same over here in Australia.

the SC300 was the the only one of the SC series badged as Toyota in Japan and that was only for two or so years, then it stopped, because they started breaking away from toyota. maybe in America ur a bit behind the times but in most other countries they are considered different companies.

ive done some reserch and i have read references to the Century having a 5L V12 BUT that has only been ppl refering to a V12. most of the sites say V8 this is because (from what i can determine) that only the newer models have the V12 in it. the older models have the V8.

5L V12
http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=79959

4L V8
http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=94402
http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=54560
3.4L V8
http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/models/car/?car=54549

only V12 aye?

and my original comment on V12's was more in reference to shsaints post about calling V8 engines "kiddie size" and to answer his question as to which Japanese cars use V8's. we were reffering to the definition of "Small" and "Large" eg. large displacement engines like the 8L V10 in the viper and such engines as that. the japanese v12 is only 5L. still quite "small" in comparison.
