Hey guys,
I'm looking for an exhaust system for my AUTO civic. SHould i stick with axle back or cat back? right now, my mind is set on the apexi ws since people say its quiet. I would really like a nice quiet exhaust.

Just get the one with the FULL PIPING which means from cataylic converter and back. THat one will give you the most horsepower. I THINK axle back and catback are the same thing.

Cat-Back = Goes to the Catalyetic Converter...
Axle-Back = goes over your axel and stops...
I just bought the Tenzo-R Axle-Back for my Si, I was really really impressed with the way it performed, and it was only $200. It sounds like you want a quieter exhaust though. Skunk2's new muffler is relatively quiet and comes with a silencer, but it's just a muffler. The A'pexi world series is a nice quiet muffler, but it sucks on the dyno, showing only about 2-3hp across the powerband. Greddy, in my opinion, is overrated, although they sound nice, again suck on the dyno. I'd stick with the A'pexi idea, they make good stuff.

I've heard good things abut the ws, so I'd go with that. If you want to check out more options, you can visit www.civicsuperstore.com

Yeah we do! How do you like yours? I love mine, very impressed... lots of power, way more than my friends Tanabe Cat-Back on her Si...

I love the way it looks. I like how it kinda comes up and at an angle. And it looks alot like 5zigen fireball, which I like.

9 times out of 10 the $ that you put out for an Axle back set up for a little more you can get a Cat back setup and have more flow all the way back fromt eh header.
hope that this might help a little more....:frog:

That's not necissarily true... I only paid $195 for my axle-back and i'm very happy with the way it sounds and performs. Most cat-backs are $450-up, and some of them won't even perform as good as my axle-back.

I don't really see a difference between cat backs and axlebacks. unless you are planning on running forced induction, in which case you'll need a bigger diameter exhaust. If you're doing little bolt on stuff, a full cat back really won't give you much more than a rear 1/3 (axleback).

you and si2000vtec both have tenzo exhaust? are they the venturi ones? i've heard another person who has it and was happy with it.
based on the pic of swonder'scar, i wish the mufflerwouldn't stick out so much. Also how quiet is it?

No, its not the venturi one. I think its called T5. Well, the muffler doesn't come out that far. if you stand above the trunk and look down, you basically just see a little bit of the tip. I like it. about the sound, well, it isn't a huge muffler, so I expected it to be lud as hell, but I think it's just about right. If you drive normally, you can barely notice it, but when you HIT the gas, it makes a nice growl.

Since Swonder67 and I have different engines, were hearing different things. On my Si, most of the sound comes at low-rpm's. I'd say its peak volume is around 3500. After vtec kicks in at 5500, you can hardly hear the exhaust and the aem cai takes over. I'm not sure the model, I didn't ask. All I know is i'm extremely pleased with it overall, and it was only $195... which is the cost of a good muffler... and i'd much rather have an axle-back than a muffler.

yeah, actually, I am still running my stock intake. all I did was put a K&N drop in, so all the sound I hear is exhaust. I think it looks pretty good too, but maybe because I own it. lol

the problem with my muffler is it drowns out my music when i'm driving at mid range RPM. i prefer an exhaust that won't be loud. people have been saying all over the place on the net that apexi ws is the way to go.

From what I hear, the Greddy Evo is pretty quiet too.

how about the thermal research and development or the dc sports, how do they sound and are they worth it
Swonder67

Actually, when I was getting my exhaust, I was either gonna get the one I have now, or the DC sports full cat. I like how the DC sports looks basic, and since the muffler on the DC sports is big, it wouldn't be too loud.
Whenever I think of Thermal R&D, I think of camaros, firebirds, and other american V8's. I know they make import exhausts, but I don't think they look that good. It'd be like putting Flowmasters on your car.
