Hi Everybody. My friend who I've known and trusted for a few years has a 93 Eagle Talon (not the turbo charged version) with a motor that doesn’t work. About 6 months ago the timing belt went while he was driving so he messed up some valves which all were replaced by a mechanic. However now the thing won't work at all. The engine turns over but will not run. The guy who towed it said the same thing happed to his Talon, and it was the head. The car otherwise is in mint condition and he's willing to part with it for 400 bucks. I know a bit about mechanics because i fix all of my vehicles but I have never worked on a Japanese vehicle. my first question is can i possibly rebuild the motor with my little experience? Secondly, if it is the head, is that just replicable or is other work needed as well? If the head is warped is the rest of the engine warped too (being that the block is probably aluminum)? Thirdly, Does anybody know what it may be? And Finally, is it worth trying to fix or should i just forget about it OR should I rebuild a motor from a junk yard that semi-works? One thing you might want to know, before it stopped working, it was making a very loud noise that was coming from the motor(yes it was full of new oil and he maintenanced it regularly). Thanks and I really appreciate any input and/or suggestions.

$400 for everything? Buy it!
I don't think I would worry about rebuilding the motor just yet. You need to trouble shoot it the same way you would any car. You need to check for spark, check for fuel, check the valve timing, compression, etc..
Good luck...and should you run across anything you don't understand or need a bit of help with, we'll try our best to help you out.
