Keyless entry not working

Hello from NW Iowa.I recently bought a 97 Tahoe, and later discovered the keyless entry is not functioning. I checked the obvious things like the remote battery, fuse(which runs more than just the keyless entry). Can anybody give me some pointers as to what to look for? I do not have a service manual yet and only use the local dealer as a last resort(I will say they are VERY good people, but I get a lot of satisfaction from doing repairs and most maintenance myself, and have a fair amount of mechanical ability). The power locks work fine with the door switch. Are there any relays not mentioned in the owners manual?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thank you
Mike

you can try these things:
1) make sure the carbon pads on the remote (the little black dots) and the gold contacts are clean, use rubbing alcohol and a cue tip. once u clean them, take a good carbon pencil and rub it on the carbon pads.
1) resynch the remotes by pressing the lock and unlock buttons until the tahoe cycles the power locks.
2) if that doesnt work try reprogramming the remote to do that you need to jumper the #4 and #8 pins on the DLC connector, i would simply recomend going to google and doing a search for something like "1997 tahoe remote programing"
if none of that works, its dealership time in my opinion.
Good luck, BART

Thanks a ton for the info!!! I took the remote apart and cleaned the carbon pads, "re-penciled" them and the remote works great!!
