Speedometer problems

my friend has a 1991 MR2 t-top....his speedometer and odometer doesnt work, wats up wit that....I heard Mr2s have had these problems before, so if anyone can help thx

Hey i have the same problem but mine will work than it will just stop and it wont work for the rest of the time. if anyone has any suggestions it would help me out alot!

make sure the cable is connected to the transmission and the back of the speedometer if it is and it still dont work buy a new cable

Either:
1. The cable broke (most likely)
2. Someone had the dash apart and didn't fulyl engage the speedo-cable int he back and it wiggled loose.
3. The gear for the cable broke inside the tranny (second most likely). Unfortunately this requires the tranny to come out.

or the cable is melted... that happened to mine, just wouldn't turn any more
