Timing Replacement

A couple shops told me around $400.00 to replace my timing belt! Is it really that hard? I talked to guy and he said I can break loose a motor mount and jack one side of the engine up and replace it myself real easy. Is it really possible to easily do it yourself that way? Any tips or info is appreciated. thanks. Oh and if anyone has a d16z6 for sale lemme' know!

It's not hard and it's not easy. IMO breaking loose the crank nut is the hardest part about the job.

It's not hard and it's not easy. IMO breaking loose the crank nut is the hardest part about the job.

So I can break loose a motor mount and jack up one side of it? I'm probaly getting a dohc zc or a d16z6, something cheap. Should I just say f*ck it until I get a new engine, or is this something a novice can do?

If you are saving for a new motor, why replace a t belt on the one you have now? Unless your new motor is years away.

I'll be getting a new motor as soon as I can find one. I can wait a week or two for this! thanks.

i agree with that. don't replace anything on the motor you're running. if anything, do all this stuff to the new engine before it drops in. we generally replace t-belt, water pump, and sometimes thermo.
another thing you might want to consider when you pull out your engine is to address things on the tranny side. since everything is cracked open it's the perfect time to replace clutch, throw-out bearing, and resurface flywheel.
thought i would throw that out there incase you haven't considered it yet. this way you can budget it into your swap ahead of time should you choose to replace those things :smile:
