My stock stereo in my 97 Grand AM GT has weirded out on me. Sometimes it displays what it is supposed to and sometimes it flashes weird symbols and broken up numbers. Also occasionaly when I start my car and try to turn the stereo down, the volume increases so I turn it the other way and it still increases and I have to shut it off for a few before it works properly. Anyone know what's going on with it or is it just possessed?

my guess is that it needs replaced or at least some maintenance.. i don't know if it would be cheaper to have an electrician fix it or to simply get a new one, i'm sure you could find one either on ebay or in a junkyard

My '99 does that. Sometimes all of the numbers will be broken and weird symbols, but it doesn't do the sound increasing, I never heard of that.
Your best bet would be to goto eBay/junkyard as described above and buy a radio for $15.99.

That is a common Problem with the Pontiac Radios Most of the ones I have seen do that. I would just replace it
