engine swap

I would like to know if it is possible to install an Isuzu diesel engine (1982) into a small truck of another model ( toyota,mazda,ford ranger,mitsubishi,etc.). Is there any way to adapt the isuzu 2.2L into one of these trucks. I have two of the engines and transmissions that are in great shape. I want to find a small 4 wheel drive truck and put one of these into it if it is possible. I am not worried about fuel system and mounting, just about transmission,tranfercase,engine compatability.

Anything is possible.
I suggest measuring the isuzu engine in all demensions and seeing what engine compartment has room.
The most critical is the oil pan clearance around the frame, the clearance for the steering column and hood clearance.
You can weld up engine and transmission mounts.
For the trans, its easiest to use an automatic trans that came with the Isuzu engine, as there is no clutch linkage to monkey with.
A drive shaft will have to be fabricated.
If I recall, the Chevy Chevette came with this diesel engine back in the early to mid '80s. Try and find one for a compatible engine and trans.

Isuszu and GM are more in bed than people think....isuzu uses or has used GM v6s, so they are not strangers to the small pattern tranny setup....and iirc there was a diesel used in the old luv which used a GM tranny for the auto, so you might be in luck.

I think your best bet is an S10 with 3.42 axles (gu6 code in the glove box iirc)

Thanks for the info. Really my biggest concern was about drive train compatibility. I was wondering if some of the imports from the 1980,s and early 90,s are like some of the domestics. For instance many Ford and GM trucks used the same 4 speed Borg/Warner transmissions during the 80 and these were interchangeable. They had the same bolt patterns. I am probably going to install the engine in a late 80's or early 90,s truck. I have a friend who has a machine shop who will fab up my drive shaft for me, and I can fab up the mounts and externals (clutch,fuel,etc.) I just don't know much about the imports and their compatability with each other. I do know ( if anyone is interested) that early 1980's Toyota parts will interchange with parts off of a Willys Jeep(1949 model). I had on old jeep that the starter went bad on and replaced it with a 1982 toyota p/u starter. It bolted right up and worked better than the original ever did. FYI

Chevy love\S10 are also the Isuzu pup are the same truck. I had a diesel love long bed with the 5 speed. Pop the hood and there in big bold letters was Isuzu on the top of the motor. P.S. that Isuzu diesel was one of the best motors for how long they last. Alittle weak for power but out lasted two trucks for me. To the tune of 4xx,xxx miles with only glow plugs going bad @ 2xx,xxx miles. Other then that keep up on the oil changes and they live forever.
