Here is what I have. 1996 Blazer 4.3 Vin W.
I have a starting problem some times. It seems it does it when I run the car, whether it be to warm up or not, turn it off and try to restart it around two hours later. It does the hard start and cranks for at least 10secs before it starts.
Here is what I noticed. When you turn the ignition to the on postion, not start up but on. All the lights come on to do the light check. Sometimes the Service Engine Soon light does not. I have also noticed when it doesn't come on the fuel pump relay doesn't click and the Fuel Pump doesn't turn on. If I key turning it on and off a couple of times the SES light comes on and then you hear the fuel pump relay click and the fuel pump come on.
I also checked the wiring diagram and noticed that the ignition switch goes to the SES light then to the fuel pump relay. All of the other lights in the check up work.
I am thinking it is the ignition switch but I just want to make sure before I drive it into the head of the service manager at the dealership. He just doesn't seem to pay attention so I might have to use a big hammer.

usually when I see a "spins and wont start" complaint on that model vehicle, I pay close attention to the bulb check.
if I don't see the SES light, I will suspect an ignition switch

Ok. I got my blazer back from the dealership. They replaced a crank sensor. Today I tried the normal routine for the failure. I start it up, drive it around to the back of my house, move it into my garage, and wait two hours. I noticed that when I started it the SES light came on with the ignition in the on position. I also heard the fuel pump relay click in and heard the fuel pump whine like it is supposed to. I did notice that when I kept the key in the start postion the fuel pump whined like normal, whined down, then back up and that is when the car started.
Any suggestions?

I'm not an expert, but does anyone know which wire out of the ignition switch actual goes to the coil/distributor. Could you check that wire to see if voltage was flowing through it? Wouldn’t that indicate the switch is the problem? Just a thought, I know sometimes we try to fix the symptom and not the cause. Also just another data point from my experience, there were times the Blazer would start all day, then go over to friends and it would take 8-10 times of turning the key to see indicator lights, but for me they were all or nothing. Never saw a individual light not work.
Hope you get it fix. CCCD

I think I have the SES light figured out. It seems that when you turn the ignition off and immediately restart it is when the SES light doesn't come on but if you want a second or two then restart it the SES light some on like it normally should at start up. So with that figured out I am leaning back towards the fuel pump but the dealership said the fuel pressure was good. I am thinking of taking it to another mechanic have him find the problem and then tell the dealership what he found and have them fix it.

To verify a faulty ignition switch, check the fuses that are powered only with the key on...if a leg of the switch is faulty, these fuses will not have power

Well, after being in the shop for the last two days, the dealership has determined the problem to be the fuel pump. I will get it back sometime this afternoon and put it through some tests when I get off work at midnight. I will let you all know what happens.

just to let eveyone know, I put my blazer through a couple tests today to see if I could get it to no start or hard start and it passed.
I guess changing the fuel pump was the trick.

Fuel pumps really blow(suck badly?) on these trucks -I have had 3 in 5 years. Keep it atleast a 1/4 tank of fuel to keep this one cool and make it last longer - maybe.
