Who wrote the Bible?

Man? God? Both?

Could it be a book of all knowing power appeared one day on a table in a religous mans table? Maybe a crazy man one day felt like venting his thoghts in a novel that was later found or given to a church? Or did a being not of this world come to a man or men and tell them to scribe his wishes or else?

Whoever did it has a wild imagination.

There has never been a claim that God wrote the bible. He dictated.

I voted Man. No one knows for sure, but I would say that Man had wrote the bible, it's rather unusual for some "higher being" to come down from all of his good greatness from above, just to write a f**king book and be killed. I think whoever wrote the bible must have been smoking some of that really good ancient chronic that most of us wish we could hit just once.

Maybe the question should be "who edited the bible" then? I heard the jews changed a good deal of the old testiment.

While we're at it who wrote the koran, bhagavad gita, dead sea scrolls, etc... and are they essentially the same.

It's a very controversial issue, and many different people have many different views on it. I think if we'd actually let this post go for a while, it would get a bit over crowded and a bit out of hand.

if u think about it, itz an easy question. man wrote the bible.....now who's works the wrote about..theirs or Gods is where the debate starts...i say they wrote the inspired works of God and his son Jesus...and as we being human...put some of their own stuff in there

Man wrote it but God inspired it.
The Jews didn't change it.
Where do you guys come up with this stuff?

The farmers wrote it to keep their kids from doing bad stuff like incest and stealing. :p

Start stating facts, not opinions stated as facts. If you have read the bible, everyone knows that the bible was God inspired and man wrote what God told them to write.

I mean who's kidding who here? It's the bible, there is no cold, hard scientific evidence proving anything that it says, it's just based on common belief. With the bible there is always more than enough room for debate, this thread could go on for years if the Mods would allow it, just because everyone has to put their two cents in about the bible.

Are you kidding? Historians have proven that the Bible is a very accurate history book. Get your facts straight.

I'm not going to sit here and argue points of religion with you people. It's a waste of time. I don't even think there should be anything like that this ever posted on here again. EVER. If I was a mod, I would ban the thread starter, and the people who are so stuck on not listening to others' points of view here.

I don't recall any rules on here that states you had to read all the threads. If you don't like the topic just don't participate or at the very least contribute something worthwhile.

Why are you so mad at God? And besides, this is a philosophizing forum where people can discuss their ideas.

Jesus fucking Christ, who gives a flying rat's ass? It's all so fucking retarded. Religion is pointless, it's for people who have nothing better to do with spare time. I give up, there is no possible way in getting anywhere near through to you people...you're all like a bunch of fucking drones or some shit out of some bad science fiction movie from the 50s.

You have said nothing worthwhile on this thread (or any other thread as far as I can tell). You want to talk about closed minded and a drone? Look in the mirror guy. At least try and talk intelligently about something.
Comming on here and seeing the same pointless childless crap you post is getting really old. Do us all a favor and leave the forum to people who can discuss topics like adults.

Unforuntalty for you they are still entitled to thier own opionions, and don't need you to tell them otherwise.

Either obey the rules of rational debate and follow AF's guidelines or you can find yourself on the express train out of here.

Now for all those who like to think that the bible is some great and powerful book written inspired by god, I suggest you learn some of its history.
To begin with the versions used today difer dramiticly from any versions written 2000+ years ago. It has been edited, and had whole chapters added and removed by a succesion of chruch political leaders, theres a good reason why the currently accepted version is called the King George bible, its because he rewrote, and retranslated most of it to suit changes in society.

Then there is the problem of the imperfections, and inconsistancys in the bible, in both todays version, and acient versions.
For it to be the work of god, written by man, it would mean that god had made some pretty awful mistakes in his dictation, or had made some pretty awfull choices in his choice of scribes, putting very strong doubt on his claims to perfection.

And of course you would expect the ultimate book on how to live your life as dictated by the so called god himself to contain something revelationary, instead it simply puts into very complex language a set of moral beliefs that have been around in cultures much older than our own for thousands of years, and then uses hollow threats as a way of backing them up. Not exactly what I would call great and powerful, more like immature and demeaning, much like the school yard bully threating to beat you up if you don't give him your lunch money.
