I personally believe souls were invented in Wisconsin. Well it wasn't called Wisconsin then, but is now anyway.

And, living objects aren't the only things with souls either.

Also, if you don't mind, can I add "souls exist" to the poll? As right now you have two options, and are missing one that lets you believe in souls, but not that they come from "God."

Believing what scientists say today is a lot like believing the guy who wrote the bible. They are both people who make mistakes and want you to believe what they do. Remember, scientists used to think the world was flat and earth was the center of the universe? Believing in evolution is on par with every other religion out there in my opinion.

Evolution and "man was made of of dirt" are two theories. Might be just be me, but people look more like monkeys than they do dirt, so I tend to believe in evolution.

In my own experience, when I pray, God hears me and responds. When I go through tough times in my life, my spirit is sick, and I must work to heal it. Spiritual sickness is much like physical sickness, it can be contagious, but it can also be healed.

"Spirit" and "God" are complex objects stored in my mind. Using mental faculties I can relate these objects to other objects stored in my mind. Additionally, these objects are active in my unconscious, so at times I may act on them unknowingly.

Anyone really interested in this should read Gary Zukav. A lot of his writing deals with the overlap between western science and eastern spirituality.

If you believe souls exist but don't believe in God then what is the purpose for the soul and what happens to it when you die?

I think the "soul" is energy, and is therefore released into the earth once again to be recycled much as our bodies decompose in the ground and are recycled.

I believe in a soul. I believe we all have them and were lucky because were the only one of God's creatures to have one, thats in the bible when God said were the only one's to have the breath of life. But God gives us the freewill to reject him and everything he is.

But I would think that something that is eternal (or recyclable)as he was saying would have some purpose. If it is just recyclable energy then science should be able to measure it. I am just trying to figure out what people who believe in a soul think the reason for the soul is if there is no God.
