Seat ??? (not your average question)

I have been searching now for about 2.5 hrs, carefully selecting a different choice of words, searching recent and archived and I haven't found anything that helps my problem.
I have a '91 Std Hatch and I just got a deal on some Si seats, but the seats are from an 88/89 Si. I need to know if putting my rails and $hit on these seats will work. If so, the big question is, How would I go about getting the seatbelt part onto the seat. Some posts say it a direct fit and some don't. If I get these seats put in, How will I connect my seat belt??
Also if possible can someone please post pictures of the bottom of Si seats for all years (88/89 & 90/91) and pics of their install or IM me with more info. Help a sister out please. HOLLA!

or if anyone have a diagram of a 90/91 seat disassembly that will possibly help. The only one I have is for a CRX (no seatbelts on the side)

i just wanted to say i know it's possible but i know it's more than i wanted to try, i tried putting my 88 dx seats in a new 90 std and eventually just gave up. i hope someone will find this that knows the answer if not just keep posting. sometimes it takes more than one.

I believe the only time seats are a direct swap is when they are of the same year as the car. Otherwise it will be a rail swap and some drilling to attach the seat belt. Its the same reason why most people do racing seats and seat belts at the same time.

Crazy...I actually have the same problem, I picked up a set of 88/89 si's and I'm having my friend make me custom brackets of of 1/4" steel to make them fit in my 90 dx. I had the damn rails almost mounted before I realized ther's a 3" difference in the width of the mounting points. I will still need to drill out the rivets on the outside bracket to get it to mount flush. I can make a diagram and take pix of the brackets after they're finished if you like, should be by the end of next week.

I have heard of this being done, but in the reverse, so the person only had to remove the seat belt attachment from the 90-91 seats. I think I heard that the inside rail fit, but that the outer one had to be swapped, but don't quote me on that. I'll check my manuals tomorrow and see if I see anything useful...

Thanks everyone, but I finally got the seats put in today. I swapped out the seat pans. Then I reversed the seats (drivers on pass side and vice verse). I didn't have make any brackets or nothing. I will have pics tommorow.
In my case I had 88/89 Civic Si seats going into a '91 Civic Std.
*Took the seat apart (2 halves top seat bottom seat
*I took the rails off my STD seats.
*Took some hog pliers and removed the clips holding the fabric onto the seat.
*pulled the fabric back (not off)
*pull the cushions away from the seat pan
**Did the same thing for the Si seats**
Then,
I took the Si seat cushions and put them onto my '91 Civic Seat pans. I noticed that most of the Honda seat pans are the same, but mount in a different spot.
I got part of my idea from a guy on HT that put s2000 seats in his civic by swapping the seat pans. Then another guy told me that he did the same thing.
I am so happy though. Those vinyl seats nearly cut me up. HOLLA if you have questions about how I did this.

Good work T-Mo.
Fredthedragon - I have some DX seats from a 91 sedan if you or someone wants them. The rails are toast but the seats themselves are good. I was gonna throw them away, but they are in good physical shape...the fabric is worn out but not torn, so seat covers could do wonders....However, my Integra seats are SO much nicer...I would recommend you go find a set of Civic or CRX Si seats from a junkyard or something similar..Some of the 90-93 Integras have similar design features and might fit. ..I don't think you'll behappy nor get additional support from DX seats over your STD seats...I suspect they are the same except for cloth as opposed to vinyl.
Holla! ;)

any reason u swapped the driver/pass seats? or just cause the pass seat was better?

The reason is because when you put the seats on to the seat pans, that allen bolt that is in between the top and bottome half of the seats lines up on the opposite side. It is kind of hard to explain, but when doing it you will see exactly why. It will only fit if you do it this way.
The drivers side seat pan will oly line up with the pass. side seat. and vice verse.

Besides.. you'd want to switch the seats anyways. Because the passenger side seat is usually in much better condition.

I tryed the seat pan swap and it didn't work for me. The cushions are straight in the pan and the whole seat is crooked to one side. And when doin so, I had to cut the fabric so the the pivot bar would hold the top on. I finally gave up and left them in my garage. They are out of a 90 crx. Any suggestions on how to make them straight? And when you mean pans, do you mean the bottom and top or just the bottom?

Crx seats don't work when doing the pan swap for some reason. I have heard of ppl doing it on teg, seats, civic seats, and s2000 seats.

I just put 90-91 crx si seats in my 89 hatch, I just busted out the big guns (torch, wire feed welder, die grinder, etc) I welded my 89 seat rails to the pan of my newer si seats, worked fine... in my case I couldnt switch pans, tried it, not a chance...

you can swap seat pans as long as they are from the same style seat, like all years Si and Dx have interchangeable seat pans... those are real easy

You could always drill some holes in the floor like the idiot that put the SI seats in my hatch when I bought it...
