Lighten Stock Flywheel?

With all this cold and snow, all I can do is think about spring. I was looking for something to do to my 90 Accord 5-Speed for around $400 that would give it some more get-up-n-go without really having to tear into the engine. I was thinking about a new clutch and a light flywheel, but I hear that an aftermarket lightwieght flywheel can hurt your mpg. I was wondering if it was possible to lighten your stock wheel so it is lighter, but not quite as light as an aftermarket?

Well, i dont know the answer to your question. But when i went to the honda dealership and was asking how much to put different aftermarket parts into my car(95 accord). He said that to put an aftermarket light weight flywheel in, you have to take apart your transmission. Then he quote me some ridiculous price of like a grand, of course this is the honda dealership, but from what i heard he is right about the labor intensity to put in a light weight flywheel. So if you are looking for something that to do to not tear apart your car, the flywheel might not be the way to go.

rumor has it that lightweight stock flywheels are prone to exploding... that what they say when they advertise light weight aftermarket flywheels. Anyway they have a discussion about flywheels in the "lets get technical" section so u can check that out to get an idea on aftermarket flywheels. They say something like chromoly is a good aftermarket flywheel.
