1st place or thing to check would be the heater core .

I had this problem during very hard rains only while driving the car but it was not a problem with the heater core. The problem was actually the fresh air vent from the outside in front of the passenger side of the windshield. I removed the black plastic cover and a small gutter to divert windshield water to a drain had fallen off and the plastic cover to allow water to drain off without going into the vent had come loose. I installed the a filter that comes in the regal into mine and glued the gutter in place and reset the plastic piece. Havent had a problem since.

Not trying to sound like a "Know-it-all" but this is a really common problem with our cars. The drain for our AC is fairly small. Condensation drains through a small hose on the firewall. The hose clogs with crap, mold, mildew, whatever. The condensation backs up and drains on the passenger side carpet.

I'd try unclogging the drain before I started worrying about the heater core. If the heater core were bad you'd be smelling anti-freeze inside the car and your windshield would fog up when you use the heater.

I'll see if I can dig up a diagram for the drain location.

This is a common problem w/ the drain tubes cloging or like gtgp97 said dislodging.

I just repaired this problem on my 98 GTP. Assuming you don't smell Coolant or have fogging. Then the problem is likely a small rubber dam that is located under the exterior plastic. This dam diverts water away from the fan intake and comes loose. Remove the wipers, plastic grill beneath them and you'll see it laying there. I recrimped mine and glued it on with silicon. Good luck
