Finished: DeTomaso Pantera
Veyron
01-29-2004, 01:12 PM
This is Tokyo Marui's Pantera kit built box stock except for the shifter and antenna. Painted with MCW's #2153 red and their black lacquer, cleared with Tamiya TS13. Interior is white primer with semi gloss clear overcoat, DeTomaso's insignia's on the floor mats form another Pantera kit. This was the first time I cleared over decals with TS clear, it worked great, especially considering some of the decal is silver which can be very delicate.
This kit is well engineered, designed to be motorized and the steering wheel would even steer the front tires. The doors are also open on this model but I glued them shut and filled the panel lines. The front quarter window has it's upright support molded into the window, I didn't want side windows so I left them out completely. I was going to make a support at least but don't have the proper plastic stock. I also still have to install the side mirrors. I had to lower the rear suspension a little.
This model was inspired by the real car pics below.

WOW !
That is quite a nice replica.
Maybe some brass stock for the 'vent' window frame, sometimes plastic just won't work.
Very cool classic sports car!

Nice looking build. In the pics the body looks a little enlongated or stretched out. Is the model like that or is it just the pictures?

That is awesome! Looks just like the real thing.
The side markers look like illuminated LED's in the pics.
What classic exotic is next I wonder?

You may be used to see that, but I can't help posting it::eek2::eek2::eek2:

Yours looks just like it should be. Classy, agressive, and serious. Love it.

not only for your modeling skills, but moreover i like so much your subjects... I also have 4 boxes (!) of this Marui Pantera, but i am afraid not to do a good work... so i am waiting for the time being.

It may be, I didn't measure but it has made me double take when I look at it. They may have stretched some in order to make the battery box fit without sacrificing the interior like so many motorized kits suffer from.

Ahhh! Pantera is definitely on my to-do list. Any recommendations on kits?
Tokyo Marui did two or three versions, only one has the police chase seen on the box which is this kit. They did a wide fender version and a mild race version. Only Tokyo Marui has gotten the body shape good enough, most of the other makers got the roof line wrong etc. In almost any kit if the body is right, the rest can be overcome.
Thanks for all the comments and praises, I'm proud to have finally built this kit but at the same time ashamed it and other cool stuff stays in boxes as I build more mainstream stuff. Maybe this is the year for change. :naughty:

Go ahead and stick the knife in my back and twist it a little more and do the damned Bora :icon16: :evillol:
I'll just come up with something clever and unique so I won't feel so non-productive!
Haven't touched my PS2 in nearly 24 hours! Maybe I won't forget how to build models. :grinno:
