i have found a web site that sells used cars in japn from skylines to shitty cars they gave a 1996 gts-t for 9,600 and to ship it to long beach california it cost 900 bucks they say it only has 55,000 miles on it and they say it is in good condition. now to buy the car you e mail them and ask them if the car is still in stock then you wirrerlesly send them the money into there acount threw yoour bank then they send the car to there inspecters and after 3 days of inspections they ship it over on the first boat availible. now they are regestered and qaulified by the goverment of japan but im hesitating to get it what if they rip me off.

and if you think its leget then once i get it here do you think it is possible to take it to mexico and we have a house there so we can use the address to regester it there then just come over and import it from there or just use the mexican license plates and just act like im a visiting turist

There's one part I don't get. Are you
1. Trying to import the car to Cali, then
2. Drive it to Mexico,
3. Register the car at an address in Mexico and get Mexican plates,
4. Then drive the car into the US as if it's okay?

Sounds like a pretty weak/roundabout way of getting around the legalization process. How are you going to get to Mexico in the first place?

Even if you do get the plates from Mexico and get back into the States, it's only a matter of time before you get caught, the car gets impounded, and you're short $10,100.

Just save up and get a legalized car.

"I cant believe you would actually think a 1996 skyline would be any where close to $ 9600.... thats a BIG joke"

Yeah you're right, a 96 GTS-t with that much on the odometer should be somewhere closer to the 6 or $7,000 range. :-P

If a place will ship you a car to wherever, it's your responsibility to import it legally. I don't think this company is out to "screw" people. they will ship you a car anywhere in the world. it just so happens that you have to go thru a lot of bullshit in the US. So.... think about it from their perspective. japanese dudes in Naha City port for example. sure, they'll take a car and put it in a box and ship it anywhere in the world. No questions asked. so some guy in the US thinks that he's gonna just be able to get the car and drive it around without getting in trouble? who cares, that's not there fault. you should be doing research on what you need to do to obtain this vehicle legally. these guys just sell cars. what's the harm in selling cars? and even shipping them too... that's just saving you the money of flying your ass over to Naha City and driving the car to the docks and trying to get it shipped.

This sounds to me like "yet another" japanese auto sales place (almost all of them operate like this) and "yet another" skyline fan who really really really wants a skyline and just because he can get one to LA or whatever, he thinks everythings just going to "work out".

no wonder most japanese people think americans are idiots. LOL I'm starting to agree. :-P

Actually I'd do it...seeing as how I live in kentucky... just ship it straight here and not worry about anything. The cops where I live know me, first of all, and don't know a damn thing about what a Skyline is...other than "Just a damned ol Nissan Jap car..."

my3rdskyline
02-01-2004, 08:29 PM
hell, i'd do it too.

I just hate to see people saying that these poor little family auto sales places in japan that completely HOOK YOU UP with a cheap ass car being called con artists.

Hello.... People..... it's not the car dealers fault you're simple.

That's like saying that drug dealers are responsible for you being a dumb ass and getting yourself hooked on smack. C'mon. take some responsibility. you know what i'm saying?

flylwsi
02-02-2004, 01:14 AM
except you can't have a skyline shipped straight to kentrucky.
(the R is supposed to be there)

it's got to come into the port, in cali.
and then you're fucked.
b/c you can't get it out of customs.
sorry.

my3rdskyline

you might not be able to ship right to kentuky but california is not the only point of entry for large containers arriving in the united states. I don't think the point is trying to bypass cali's border cops. We were just wondering how many people in the US actually know or give a flying crap about the nissan skyline. and what are the odds that a cop is going to pull you over and say "you have a nissan skyline? I know exactly what that is and I know you are not supposed to have this in the US because I read the forums on automotiveforums.com" C'mon. most people don't have a clue about these cars.
Then people started to talk about these auto sales places in japan trying to rip people off. But that also got shot down. so... I can start to see why the administration at this forum gets pretty annoyed sometimes (razorGTR). Nothing new realy gets discussed and people ask a lot of redundant questions. (that was a joke) It seems like most of the posts in here are people saying.... the question has already been asked.... look here for your answer: http://inyourface.com/mydumbthread.php

It's kind of funny though. it's almost like there are cliques.
1 the people in the US with skylines legally
2 the people in the US who can't afford them so they whine a lot
3 the people not in the US who have skylines and make fun of group 2 or just inform them over and over again that they will not get a skyline.
4 kids who have seen 2F2F and have internet access.

:-)

I think the first post can be answered like this:
YES, skylines are cheap if you are in japan.
NO you can't get one in the US for the same price plus shipping if you want to do it legally and drive it on the street.

i clicked on that bafta link and it brought me to some british film crap. braille head..... so you put a DP on the 1996 gts-t? Good luck with the car man. Those R33s are nice. let us know how everything works out.

i have been to this bafta site as well and am very interessted. I live in seattle washington, near the canadian border. I have done as much research as i can, and still in process of doing some more, and have discovered that canada will allow japanese imports 15yrs or older with no regulations. The car i was looking at importing is a 1989 R32 Skyline. Its 15 yrs old. Then, you can get it liscensed in canada no questions asked. Then, US regulations say that if a student in canada can prove: they have been a studen for one year, and proof of liscense for the car, they can bring the skyline into the US with no EPA approval. I was just wondering what you guys thought about this. I am a 16 year old, my integra was just stolen, and am low on cash (anyway, i think the motorex monopoly is a bullshit thing, check the forum on what it takes to legalize a skyline- shouldn't be 15grand) I was soooo excited when i found the skyline, and now i must have it!!!
Please comment... thanks

Indeed...importing to canada is WAY easier/better/efficient than in USA...you have to pay for all this legalization garbage..in canada the car only has to be 15 years or older and THATS IT, u can pick up a 1989 gts-t for 5 grand with shipping, not to mention that it's 5 grand canadian!!!

Too damn bad that you don't just need EPA approval on imported Skyline GTR's. They also need DOT and two other government agency approvals.

And yes, you've obviously done soooo much research into the Motorex scam. You're so right, there's no way that they can cost that much. Not with the ridicuously priced tests they have to do on every car (do you EVEN know how many stupid tests each car has to go through? Like having a licensed test facility heat the gas tank, and measure the gas fumes that come from the car? And how much those tests COSTS???), the amount they've had to pay labs to do research into compliance, the costs of the Skylines they had to ship over, then wreck, and the amount they had to pay the lab to do the test on that.
And WHAT am I thinking, obviously they should buy cars, bring them to the US, and sell them for the EXACT costs it takes to legalize them. Oh, and I suppose they should just be glad they spent the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS doing the initial research to have the chance to devote a ton of hours towards legalizing a car so they can sell it at cost to a 16 year old kid, who would then complain that he shouldn't be expected to pay $25,000 for a Skyline!!! You.......... :banghead:

You need to go down to the Motorex facility, and take a look around. Does it REALLY look like they're making money hand over fists? Hell, a lot of their top employees can't even afford to drive Skylines. Then ask them about how the testing on the R34's is going, the kinda stupid hoops they're having to jump through to get THOSE legalized. And every time I hear some kid rattle off about, "Wut a ripof dey r", I can't help but wonder when Motorex is going to get fed up and say, "Screw it. Obviously there isn't a market." Then I won't get my chance to buy my 34.

my3rdskyline
02-05-2004, 09:31 PM
hey I was 18 when I got my first skyline and it was only $4000. :-) Give the kid a chance. Let us know how the Canada thing works out for you. reguardless of our feelings about motorex/US policy/DOT/your mom/whatever.... I think we'd all like to see what the outcome of this is. Keep us posted man. good luck.

If you knew what Skylines cost here, you would cry. I have a 91 R32 GTR on my lot for $8500 out the door with 88000 km and a ton of parts. I have a 95 GTS-T for $4400 with 110000km.

Exporters EXPORT. Plain and simple. If you order a car from me, you will get it. The saying is Caveat Emptor. Buyer beware. Know what you are getting in to. It is not my responsibility to administor an IQ test to you. You are buying a car, I am selling a car. Period.

Dumbasses get themselves screwed. They don't need the help of a car dealer to do it.

never went out there because I have never had a car that's worth driving. I'll go out there though. I just put an intake on my car today. It was kind of a bitch because I had to break off the stock filter box. But the new one went on fine. I picked up one of those green HKS powerflow filters from autobacs. the price was right so.... It's not fast or anything, but it's quick. It's fun and that's all I really care about. I'd like to go out there and race though. Just to have fun with other people that like cars and just to see where my car stands. I just don't like people that go out there for any other reason besides to have fun, know what I mean? You going out there tomorrow? I might go out there but I don't know...(edit*** it sucks that it's been raining so damn long man. I haven't got a chance to really drive my car for 3 days in a row. maybe next weekend) right now i'm a little fucked up on saki. Japan rules ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Well 6 months ago i ordered a toyota from batfa it was supposed to ship in a month then they told me it was delayed by customs, then they said it could not be drop shiped to long beach then they said they were waiting for another car to ship to the same destination and it was costing them money to store the truck. and this was over 4 months ago sense then they dont answer my emails or phone calls so i am looking into legal action to get my money back or my truck. so be very careful when buying something overseas they have different laws and mabe they can get away with stealing your money. it seems as though i have been taken.

I did some more searching and found a guy that did receve his car from batfa in newzealand but he was unhappy with it. I also found that the guy from the u.s. that ordered the rh honda did finaly get his car after 7months but hadnt got it out of customs but this was all in 04. I bought a toyots helux 4x4 with a diesel engine that way i was covered with the emissions part but dont know if it is all dot certified and 17 digit vin number. my 71 mini was alot more easy to import. also saw a bad ass datsun 510 with a skyline engine converson and huge turbo 4 wheel disk breaks ect while in newzealand the guy wanted 8000 bucks for it also no problem to import to the states cuz it was a 1969 car.
