[COLOR=navy][FONT=times new roman][SIZE=7]I just bought a 1996 Mustang GT, and have experienced two occasions of emergency braking and found that the ABS is not working. I know it has ABS, all the components are there, but the ABS light does not come on in the dash when I start the car, and I can see that there has been a recent brake job done on the car (ie. new pads, calipers are painted red). All fuses are ok, but ABS is obvioiusly NOT working as it should. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check the ABS relay?

im not sure if you know this or not, even with ABS your brakes will still lock up, then ABS kicks in and smoothes it out. then ABS goes away and kicks back in...thats basically the general idea.

Any way to check the ABS Relay other than replacing it???

Yes, I know how ABS works, but when you lay down 30-40 feet of solid skids and the pedal is not pulsing, something is definately wrong!!!

Ummmm do you know anything about electronics, multimeters and how relay(switches) work? There is a way to test it but you kinda have to know that stuff. If you don't the relay usually costs about $10 and can be switched in 5 minutes tops.
