New ground wires

The old ones where rusty and fraying, so I figured while I'm putting a new engine in there, I might as well replace the ground wires.

Went to Busy Beaver and got som 1/4" steel braided cable and Advance Auto Parts for something to stick on the ends.

Your manifold cover is ugly but my thoughts on the ground wires are good goin. Im also about to do mine because one broke and its not a bad idea to freshen them all up.

The manifold cover is actually a bit darker than the camera makes it look. Its a Ford blue. I'm not sure if I like it though, so that was one I was painting up to put on the new motor to compare.

I wouldn't think they needed to be, they are just ground wires after all. But what do I know? I'm a n00b. Its still not to late to make new ones, as the engine isn't even here yet. :(

i dunno, i figure they would be better insulated because if there all open wouldnt they hit the hood and other things and spark and ground out occaisionally??

I have some ricer blue wire covers perhaps I'll toss them on just in case.

:screwy: no offense but did u say the GROUND wire was gonna Ground out? only the positive needs to be insulated. Keep the ground away from any positive connections and moving parts and you'll be aaight!

I hope those are galvanized or something, steel rusts, especially in under hood environments.

cable like that will never come gal-v.
but i suggest you go to a welding supply store and pick up a can of gal-v spray paint. all it is, is a zinc coating that prevents rust. should work great.

It is a good thing to upgrade your ground wires in the egine bay, but the cable you are using is not meant for automotive. It is not even meant for DC electric current. The strands are way too big. If you really want to make a better ground wire, you need to get finer stranded wire. DC current flows better and moe efficently on fine stranded wire. Thick cable that you have there is made for AC current.
