Listen ive only been a member here for a week and i can already tell who is for real and who isnt. Im not gonna name names but you know who you are that watch to many movies and read to many go fast magazines but as far as real life experience? you have none! Now before any of you teenage punks answer this question and make your selfes look stupid, think about it. What i would like to know real life numbers on a bone stock l67 (mine is a 260hp 2004 comp g) with stock exaust. stock thermostat, stock computer basically "off the showroom floor". I dont want to do a ton of mods and dont want to spend alot plus my wife still has to drive this thing. So im thinking 3.4 pulley(supposedly 20-25hp) wizaired CAI(supposedly 7-12hp)now seriously with doing only these 2 mods will i notice it at the track? 1/4 mile i mean. And please only answer if you really know, fibbers, i know who you are. Thanks.

I'm a fraud...but I'll answer your questions anyway...
A 3.4 pulley upgrade will throw about 16hp to the wheels on a stock L67, however it may be good for a little more on the L32 (the series 3 supercharged engine you own) due to the new supercharger design and the less restrictive factory throttle body. The pulley actually creates 25hp or so at the crank but the extra stress on the supercharger robs some of it. The torque you notice is night and day over stock. It is at minimum a 30 ft lb gain to the wheels assuming you keep your knock (and knock retard) under control. (Visit zzperformance.com tech's section for more info on knock retard) The cold air intake will compliment a pulley upgrade well and will likely put 7-10 to the wheels (The wizair is probably the best at this point). You will want to compliment the new setup with a 180 degree thermostat to help prevent knock, as well as a u-bend removal in your exhaust (20 minutes at a muffler shop) if the 04 cars have this restriction. I believe they still do...
The answer to your "will I notice this at a track" is yes. These mods will drop you into the low 14 second car range assuming you launch the car well. 0-60 will dramatically improve and you will push a little harder up top. For more highway power you will want a cam or rockers, if that interests you.
That is just my fraudulent fake punk opinion :)

Well if you did that you would see a difference. You might want to go with 1 step colder plugs too Just so you don't get any knock, you won't want a colder stat during the winter. The 04 gps are heavier than the previous ones by around 200 lbs so I personally can't say how fast you'll be. Alot of it depends on the driver. You will for sure notice a difference though.
Also the mod that most people rave about is a DHP pcm. That can do the most for your dollar from what I've seen. After you add the pulley and cai you might want to have it a-taped somewhere and see if you are getting any knock, if you aren't theres no reason to get colder plugs nor a t-stat. Plus you will want to reset your PCM after doing that. I don't know why because I don't really understand the pcm stuff.
Also joe that pulley might actually do less on the series 3 due to that it has a slightly smaller pulley than the L67. I'm not sure though you could be right too.
I don't know anything I just act like I do.

thx. 98gtp and joe i think your fraudulant about being a fraud, so my motor is an l32? This knock thing sounds bad do i even want to change pulleys? will i be able to tell? will i hear the "ping" i run 91-93 octane shuld i still be concerned? and what is A-TAPED? remember im an old school muscle car guy technology sucks. But thx guys and good night.

A quick summary of my mod experience:
First I noticed a significant difference in performance with an intake and pulley. After that I opened up the exhaust slightly and did not see any difference in my times. I then added Rockers and felt a difference in power but not quite as much as with the intake and pulley. Finally, I think the headers/dp and high flow cat I put in produced the greatest gains in power. Next should be the PCM and maybe a Cam. Good luck with your car!
What i would like to know real life numbers on a bone stock l67 (mine is a 260hp 2004 comp g)
You mean the L32 right? Well the best mag times were 0-60mph 6/6s(6.5s w/Comp G) and 15.0s@96mph in the 1/4mile. If you meant dyno numbers, there have been some posts on clubgp with stock dyno numbers. It was mentioned that it is hard to get accurate numbers because of the difficulty dynoing this kind of car.
I think the average stock times posted on clubgp for the L32 have been around 14.9s. With my mods I am getting a 0-60 of 5.3s in full street trim and some others have got 4.6s 0-60 times. Once you start modding it is hard to stop. :iceslolan

Hey 98, the pulley on the L32 is also 3.8 diameter, the same as the L67. They made more power with the 04 model year with a revamped internal Eaton m90 supercharger design, and as mentioned before a less restrictive throttle body. Gm could have easily gone with a smaller pulley to make more power, but they still fear any more than 280 lb ft of torque on our transmissions. So they left the pulley size alone. Hence the new 260hp 280 lb ft rating.
titleist - The 3.4 pulley upgrade creates more boost by spinning the supercharger faster. This creates more heat in the air compressing inside the lower intake manifold which makes things hotter inside of cylinder chambers. It is a safe modification if you compliment it with the lower thermostat, and the u-bend removal. You want to make sure to run 93 with this pulley always. Run 93 period actually. The thermo will lower the overall engine temp which translates into cooler combustion chambers, and the u-bend removal will ensure that you can ditch a higher volume of spent exhaust gas properly. More gas out, less gas left over to keep the chamber heated. Like I said, I'm not sure if the 04 have this restriction but knowing gm they did not redesign the exhaust system, other than the exhaust tips. I'll look into that for you and send you a pm at some point.
Anyway, engine knock is premature detonation. It is your air\fuel mix blowing up before it is supposed to. (In case you don't know) This is caused when the spark plug is unable to properly ditch the heat generated by the previous air\fuel mix explosions. A red hot spark plug + new air\fuel mix = early boom
Severe knock can destroy your engine quickly. This is why gm uses fairly sensitive knock sensors on our motors. When they detect knock, the pcm retards the timing of the engine, reducing power, but eliminating the knock to keep your engine healthy.
The only things necessary to safely run that pulley is the 180 thermo and the u-bend removal. Some will argue those two things are not really necessary and the 3.4 pulley can be run as a standalone mod. Better safe than sorry in my book. I've moved well past a 3.4 pulley at this point, but I put a good trouble free 30k miles on my gtp with the 3.4, the 180 thermo, and the u-bend removal, and cold air intake as my only mods.
You can't really hear knock since our pcm adjusts quickly to prevent it. The only way to figure out if you have it is to use the autotap tool you asked about. There is a scanmaster tool as well I think. (www.pfyc.com) Any pinging serious enough to be heard inside the car is probably something else. The A-tap is a reference to the Autotap software. It is a diagnostic tool that can interface with the engine computer to give you details about ses codes and real time engine information such as knock retard, rpms, o2 sensor readings, etc. etc.

Had to get rid of some stuff cuz joe answered it already. My bad on the new ones having the same pulley I coulda swore I read somewhere that that was one of the differences but ok you're probabally right.
With a 3.4 pulley and cai knock shouldnt be that big of a deal. Also you should already be running 91 octance ATLEAST! Its not good to run lower than that with FI on these motors.
Also you might want to check if that cai fits your car. I'm not sure if it has enough room for the same stuff. NOt sure though only seen one of these new gps in person.
OH and yeah you don't have an L67. I'm not sure what the new one is but 97-03 were series II while urs is a seires III. Pretty much the same only difference I know other the ones joe listed are forged internals.
And jeff I don't think he wants to go mod crazy I think he just wants to have some fun, like he said his wife will still be driving it.
I know someone who put a 3.4 pulley on an 04 gtp comp g and they only have colder plugs and they are fine on knock so I assume with cai u'll be fine. Those mods will void ur warrenty I'm pretty sure though.
Also if you do this stuff and get ur car a-tapped and u have knock stil l check out this link

Thanks to all of you its nice to know people who know things. Sounds like i have some reading to do. Im assuming if i do some mods and blow the motor or something i guess i can save the stock stuff to put back on before i take it to the dealership. would suck but oh well. Plus dont they have to prove it was the mods fault? Oh yeah i was playing with my little 5 button computer and i found a transmission temp gauge that was reading 192. is that normal? and i wasnt even beating on it cuz its snowing like a bitch here. What if it were dry and i was beating on it? Now ive seen on clubgp that alot of these guys are running tranny coolers, i even read about a GM one. Is that something the dealership can and will install on my car cuz i heard their a bitch on 04s. If the dealership can and will install the GM one for me will the question my driving habits or ask about other mods i might be thinking of? Thanks again guys.

Yes it was a PITA but I finally have them on w/o any leaks. The EGR connection was a little tricky and I still need to finish wrapping them. It was definitely the best mod I have done, but I guess the mods all compliment each other.

Please do not get a tranny cooler. I've never really heard any positive gains from them. Most people say it is a waste of money. Never had one and I haven't really heard any good things about them.

Your Trans temp is going to be pretty close to the engine temp.
Tranny coolers do work, dont expect any gains as they are not a HP mod. I would suggest using one if you live in the south where summer temps are over 100+ degs
The only way to really start learning about your car is to do the work yourself. Obvously some do require a shop.
