B16A or B18C?

Which swap gives a better performance. A 1600 Civic Head on a CRV Block or an 1800 Integra Head on the CRV Block. I have a choice to make between the two of them soon and don't know which one to go for. So please help me out.

the b16a head flows more freely than the b18 does, so that would be my choice.

But the GSR head has a higher compression due to the shape of the chambers :)

compression can be changed alot easier than the flow characteristcs of the head.

Will considering the B16A head only flows better by a fraction of a percent, and only in a small segment of the rpm range (granted it is the most important segment), I'd rather spend a little for a slight port and polish than rebuild a block with new pistons, which would cost more. Of course he could run a thinner head gasket, and hope it holds under hard abuse for long enough to make it worth it, or he could do the worst and mill the head, but once you take it off, you can't put it back.

What's the cost of the heads? Im guessin you'll be able to get the B16 for cheaper

I've seen more cheaper B16A heads, but have seen my fair share of cheap GSR heads too. Depends on how much you look around, you can find both comparitively priced.

Alaniz had flow data up for a stock B16 head and a stock GSR head, the numbers were virtually identicle, within a few CFM's at any given point on the chart. That small difference can be attributed to casting inconsistencys, and you wouldn't notice that small of a difference anyways. Go with whatever head you can get cheaper.

how about both. B16A head does flow better than the B18. Also, B18C block + B16A head = poor man's Type R engine. Also, you can replace B16A head parts with B16B parts.

Its kind of like arguing about whether God exists or not. You can't prove he does, but you can't prove he doesn't. Even with charts and dynos, people will still differ in their opinions. :screwy:

Theres almost no point in paying for a type r head when you can have a b16 p&p'd

And the cams and valvetrain. To make a B16A head a ITR/CTR head will cost a good $700-$800 for the cams, valvetrain, port and polish, parts and labor. Of course you can shop around and pay less, or you can pay more just depends.

I congratulated a guy in another thread for the information he provided in his thread, and how it actually could help diagnose his problem. YOU sir, are now the example for other newbies of what NOT to do.
How the fuck is anyone supposed to give you ANY advice what-so-ever based on that statement which is in complete disreguard of ANY information about your issue what so ever? What about pullies? Did one fly off and hit you in the head? did you drop one on your foot? Are you looking for some aftermarket ones? Do you have some and want to know how to install it, or get the old one off? Would you like to know what aftermarket ones are good? Are you talking about the underdrive pullies for things such as you AC, and PS? or are you looking at getting a CTR N-1 pulley so you can wow the ladies on Saturday nights cruising shin-dig?
Do you see where I am coming rom, if you want help, you eed to let people know what you want help with.

Oh, and start your own thread, it is specific to you, and can get you much better results. Maybe the pulley expert on the forum doesn't like reading threads about motors

hey jcrx,
since you know what your talking about ill direct this question to you--you think that its cheaper to just buy a type r head than say a b16a head and replace the cams with type r's and the cam sprockets with aem's? Do you know the size of the injectors of the type r head. I think the b16's are 240cc. How much should a ITR head cost (one thats complete)
thanks

ITR heads cost between $200-$1700, B16A heads about $100-$1000 look around on some different forums for pricing. Try www.honda-tech.com
