I have an 02 2.5 RS and I plan on upgrading the engine. Anything past changing the oil is going to be done by a pro so I dont screw it up, though I'd like to take an active intrest in the tweaking of my car. There is a auto shop here on base but I don't know how much i should trust them. I would like a turbo or possibly a twin turbo and all the engine mods needed to ensure that it won't blow up on me. I know there are lots of kits out there. I could go to any auto shop and have one installed but the sites won't really tell me if someone elses kit is better, so I hope that you could. I like the aps stealth front mounted intercooler. Does this rule out a twin turbo? I'm planning on building a sleeper. I don't think I'll take this car on the track, not yet at least. So its up to the type of turbo and engine mods to support the change. Thanks for any help.

Did you read the FAQ?
As far as going RS to WRX, that's impossible without an engine swap, the RS is a 2.5 engine whereas the WRX is a 2.0

2.5rs= 4cly 2.5L
WRX= 4cyl 2.0L turbo
STi= 4cyl 2.5L turbo
WRX= 4cyl 2.0L turbo

If you'd like to convert to STi or WRX there's more than just engine work. Don't forget suspension work and other vital things.

Perhaps all of you are taking the thread title too literally. To the untrained eye an RS is a WRX w/o a turbo and an STi w/o a turbo plus engine mods. Please forgive me if I have offended you. It is foolish to ask for knowledge without accepting your ignorance. This I have, and this I ask for your help in changing.

So questions 3, 4 and a 1/2 What are the best in suspensions, clutches and what else am I forgeting? Please help.

Yes you can use a FMIC with a twin turbo. The way that would be set up most likely is the two turbos would go into a "Y" connector pipe, then into the intercooler as one pipe. Then out the other end of the intercooler and to the throttle body as one pipe. Unless you wanted to get crazy with it and build separate intake manifolds for each "side" of the engine, then oyu would be better off with 2 smaller intercoolers.

I also said that the internet won't tell you whos stuff is better so I must ask those who have tried the stuff out, this is my research. Thank you very much though, you have been most helpful, without insulting me much. Now it's down to what parts to buy, I'll keep it simple.

hell the scoop is the best way to go... way less lag... less shit to clean out of it... and so on... just get a scoop any idiot will think its just one of the flash old 2.5RSes

I didn’t have any trouble understanding his posts and im still in high school :disappoin Anyways sorry I cant help you FlyingFishSandwich I don’t know much about WRXs yet. However like someone said earlier putting a hood scoop on your car wont give it away. I mean if I saw a 2.5rs with a scoop I wouldn’t just assume its some kind of monster…the BOV from the twin turbo would do that :biggrin:

I guess my question kinda stems from this thread. I have a 96 Legacy LSi automatic. I want to keep it looking stock, sounding mostly stock, and definately riding like stock.
I have seen people put wrx engines in legacy's before, but then i would be switching out my entire engine. The sti uses the same basic engine right? would it be possible or feesable to build my LSi to sti specifications and still keep it automatic and looking stock? I wouldnt mind having a hood scoop but i would like it to look as "suposed to be there" as i can. Do any other stock subaru hoods bolt right up?

To build your car to be as fast as a STI is going to be alot of work. And when your done it wont sound stock.
