head lights

Son's 92 low beam head lights went out tonight - high beams work, but low's don't. They flickered a bit before they quite. Any ideas? I can see one going out, but both? Seems strange.

It's quite possible to have both lows go at same time, not common, but possible. the bulbs are a 9004 and they are very cheap as long as you have some light it won't be anything but the bulbs.

We got them fixed - here's the story -
We have a 92 and the low beams would not work. High beams and flash would work, but no low beams. Checked grounds, put in new relay (in the fuse box in engine compartment), then thought it was the dimmer switch which is also the turn signal - 47.00, that didn't cure it so gave up and took it to the dealer today. They concluded it was a broken wire up in the dash someplace. Either take out the dash and look for it, or just run a separate wire to make the low beams work - opted for the latter but still $205.00 They do work now though.

How / where do you run the wire - can you tell me in case this ever happens again?

It's probably either the wire from the lighting switch on the turn signal or the wire from the fuse box to the light itself. It its the turn signal switch (very likey) just trace the wire from that switch (behind the dash by steering wheel) to the fuse box under the hood. If you run a new wire there, then there is a VERY easy way to get thru the firewall. There is a rubber hole plug on the back left of the firewall. Make a small slice in it and feed it thru on a hanger. If its the wire from the fuse box to the headlight, then the fix is very obvious. Try to match the same gauge wire that is used, and you a 24 kt. gold connector to ensure that you have no problems. The wire is standard copper cable (speak wire) and the connector should be 20 cents. Best of luck!

Sorry about the above typos. The firewall plug is on the back RIGHT. Use speaker cable.
