Route 66 in Joliet is by far one of the best tracks in the midwest. NHRA runs everything there when they come to town to race. they also hold many import events during the spring and summer. www.route66raceway.com
there is also byron raceway in sycamore illinois. that is more low class than route 66.
For a Great time just grab a bunch of guys and go to 66 you won't be disapointed

Is the test & tune for anyone that wants to race? Like can i go there for a day with my friends and run our cars against each other in the quarter mile?
I'm just wondering, because i dont wanna go there, and there are all these pros with 7-10 second fulltime dragsters and we bring our daily driver Hondas with slight mods..lol

Sounds to me like anyone can race there.
"Our Test & Tune program is open to any class of vehicle as long as it passes NHRA technical inspection as set forth in the 2004 NHRA Rulebook. To steal an old phrase it is an event of “run what ya brung”. You will see everything from family minivans to full-blown alcohol dragsters and funny cars. Since these participants are testing, they will be running as hard as they can to get every bit of performance from their machines."
Where are you from, I'm thinking I might have to head there when the weather turns for the better.

Yes, the test and tunes are for anybody and everybody. I went every week 2 summers ago and it was awesome. there is everything from family mini vans to alcohol dragsters. Dont worry whatever you bring you will not get laughed at.
Just to let you know that I am coordinating a track day in honor of our friend Trey funk that passed away in a car wreck. Me and about 10-15 other buddies with imports are heading up there for a day of racing and full on fun if you want to give me your email addresses I can let you know when its going down, its gunna be within a couple months right when test and tune opens up.

There is also Union Grove, WI(Great Lakes Dragway). Not too far over the border 15-20mins from Great America. Nothing beats Rt. Sticky=Sticks in our area.
Check the websites for events. Union Grove has days/nights where anything from stock Kia's to bikes run.
Nothing better than a snowmobile pulling up to the line and running 9's or 10's
Watch out for a shitty ass lookin' (black)Galant VR4 @ Union Grove, that guys in the low 11's & the looks like complete shit, head liners all falling down :sly:

The race day for Trey is most likely going to be in mid April to early may. you can go to WWW.rout66raceway.com and check out the schedules for test and tune and let me know when you are open so i can try and work around that.

i don't want to step on any toes here, but i belive accurate information would be benificianal for everyone here. the track in Sycamore is just the Sycamore Speadway, it is an quarter mile clay circle that is sanctioned by NASACAR i saw Earnheart Jr. race on it twice for promotions, of course not with a car worth money...... the Byron raceway is in Byron Il, about another half hour or so west of Sycamore, it is a drag strip that holds NHRA events twice a year, and spectater and local league races the rest of the summer, and it's a trip to fly down the strip and watch the coolling towers of the newclear plant wiz by.....as a side note, Rockford has a pretty good half mile black top oval, that they also run figure eight trailer pull races on it.
