Coupe vs. Hatchback? Let the lists begin

I wouldn't normally start something as open ended as this but I keep getting into this debate with other people. I favor the coupe for its sleek lines and smaller rear windshield. Others prefer the hatchback for its extra space. All I am asking is if you want to add your input just list one or two of your top reasons for either. Just to satisfy my curiosity.

i prefer the hatchback, and not just because i own one.

i've always loved the hatchback because it looks alot more sporty. don't get me wrong, i LOVE coupes, and if my car had been a coupe instead of a hatchback, i would've bought it regardless cause it was a sweet deal. but the hatchback, because of the sloping windows and the fact that it doesn't look as much like a family car makes it look faster and sportier.

also, i don't think the flip-up lights go well at all with the coupe rear end. there's a few one-via's out there that i like, but it's rare that i like them. i don't think the flip-up lights flow with the coupe rear end. but of course this is easily solved with an S13 front end.

so i really like both alot, but the hatchback wins by a nose in my books.

coupes, hatchbacks I think looks kind of old, the style is gone, like the flip-up lights are. I don't think it makes it look more sporty also, just my opinion. I do like the old school datsun Zs, but I think coupes look sleeker and better.

Personally I like how the rear end on a coupe looks. I don't really like the hatch's curve rear I perfer the box look, also the coupe tends to not rust at the spoiler which i seen several hatch with bad rust.....Oh and is the trunk space the same?Also, coupes are the only ones with the HUD and digital speedo.

yeah yeah my profile has a hatchback in it. it is sexy, but i like the coupe.

When you guys say coupe, what year are you talking about? S14 coupe is far from the S13 version... Me, S13 Hatchback cuz of the sexy tails. S14 coupes would be my next choice.

S13 hatchback looks FAR better than the coupe. There's nothing wrong with the coupes (better looking than most other cars), but when you put the two next to each other, it's hatchback all the way. Also I like the S13 coupe over the S14, that body just doesn't do much for me =\

Vsiev: the hatch definatly fits more than the coupe, with the back seat down it's like a truck bed, I fit my entire dresser (assembled) in my HB when I moved. =D

Me, Im a hatch guy. I love the way the rear ends slopes down creating that long line. I think that the 240's look much better has hatchs because they have a flow. The headlights start low and slowly curve back and I think the hatch reflects that flow (not as distintive on the SOHC ... looks alot better with a DOHC 240). But coupes still are cool ... atcually I wonder if I like s13 conversion coupes as much as I like hatchbacks. Those headlights really go with the tail lights and the boxyness of the whole car. Well anyway thats just my opinion which isnt worth a whole lot :2cents: but hey, YOU ASKED lol.

wrong. fastback is over 50 pounds heavier than the coupe i believe.

plus the coupe is more stable due to the trunk.

I like the HB, i know the 180sx is a RPS-13 but is the 240sx Hb a RPS-13? everything lookds the same but the engine of course.

i like coupe alot better, but i can never find one for sale in my area. AND i only like the silvia head lights too

Yea I guess the hatch LOOKS a little better than the coupe, but I would still take the coupe's lateral rigidity and lightness.

I prefer the hatchback because in my opinion it looks better then the coupe. But the coupe still looks sexy as hell.

When I first wanted to get a 240sx I really wanted a HB. I loved the ability to haul at least two more sets of wheels (for drifting). I love the 180sx Kouki rear-lights (type-X). Buuuuuuuut: I ended up getting a Coupe! Why? Because it's more rigid, lighter and I prefered the S13 Silvia look over the RPS13 180sx look! I'm working on creating a REPLICA S13 Silvia over my One-Via style coupe! I JUST LIKE IT MORE! The Sil-80 just looks
un-natrual to me (it's a SLEEK Silvia with a big ass! Just doesn't look right!). I don't hate on the HB's though! That's where my passion for the 240sx started!

I drive a coupe, but I think the HB takes better to a bodykit. Although I choose the coupe for the wieght and body stiffness

i like both the s13 coupe, and hatchback, but if i had to pick one, id take the coupe. i like the hatchback, cause its smoother, but i dont like how the rear window is all glass, it doesnt have that painted metal area, or structure that comes down the side like the coupe does. i like the coupe, cause it has cleaner lines, and its lighter/stiffer, but i dont like how the rear looks a little too squared off, and how the trunk seems a little long, its not really that bad, just something that i kinda wish was different. anyways, they re both good looking cars overall.

north american 240SX hatchbacks are called either RMS13 or RHS13. i don't remember which is which, but one is for DOHC and one is for SOHC.

I prefer the Hatch myself I like the lines of it. I like that the pig nose gives it charachter.

I'm not sure whether this is a HB or a coupe... but I like my friend's 240 bodystyle... the s13 ... he calls it a Notchback...

I personally don't like the hatch on a 240. Some cars, such as the Corolla (AE86), I would prefer the hatch, because it is original. The hatch is too old-fashioned looking on a 240, whereas the 86 hatch is the ONLY way to go, because it is the classic.

The 240 coupe looks newer, fresher, and sexier.

The only 240sx coupe I like are s14's+ anything before them, I'm hatches all the way they just look better.

i love the silvia front end look, even tho i havent completed it, even if i didn't, i'de still like the coupe more. i loved it from the second i layed eyes on it and its just been a working progres from there. i love HB's but usualy there ones that got type x tails on em, i picked up my car for 1500 bucks, if it was a hatchback isntead of a coupe, i'de own a HB right now. end of story, i wanted a coupe, i got the deal, i got the car. i herd that the coupe was ligher? not sure about that one, and that the rear end was more rigid because the the back seat support is like a strut tower bar ina sence. i love my car, plain and simple. im just a coupe man from now on

oh i don't care personally. i'm running on cable, but for those few unfortunate souls that DO have dial-up...they'd have a problem with it.

also, a while back, we had a fiasco where people's signatures were getting so big that, while going through threads, you had to scroll through acres of signatures just to read 3 lines of actual posting.

but I'll probably have more chance of getting a regular european stock s13 (200sx) with ca18det and leave it like that, I'm not really the silvia-hatch type of guy :D

and since we don't have the coupe in europe anyways, there's also no option on doing a conversion :D

i personally have been in love with the s13 hatch for longer then i can remember..i don't even know where i was when i saw one that had been dropped..but, it was love at first site..one of my friends has a s13 coupe with the jdm headlights and it looks sweet..i just don't care for the stock pop-ups on anything but, my baby. :)

so my vote goes for the fastback for it's sleekness and just overall style.

yea both are hooot!!!! but i like the hatch better.... you cant mess with the type x tails (best tails iv ever seen on any car by far)!!!!!!!! But as long as you have a 240 your on the right page, coupe or hatch.

i like hatchbacks better cuz they look better to me, but the coupe is stronger, cuz it has support in the back..
the fastback is all just glass in the back. i have a friend whos glass actually cracked (422 RWHP) :)

I love the fastback, I hate the fact that is structurally weak, a role cage is needed for stability. Except that its beautiful.

yeah r33s are neet too, all skyline lights are great, except for the r34 tails

Not all skyline....the new skyline looks like an infiniti or sometihng.....or another 350z...not talking about the r34 but the newer one that came out....

a lot of nissan cars take the same design cue. The Murano, 350z, maxima, altima, infinite g35, all have similar designs. The Altima and Maxima have similar headlights and body shape. 350z has a very similar body shape to the altima and maxima as well. The Murano, 350z, and g35 have similar shaped headlights. 350z and g35 are also similar, body shape, head-lights, except the g35 has different tail-lights and not as aggressive, went for a more luxury look

Nope, and I personally I like the s13 coupe, thent he s13 hatch, the then s14....well it the s15 was legal here or in production....that would change what my list was lol

it is the same as the 350z kinda thing, in japan it still called a fairlady z even though it doesn't even have the specs of the fairlady....it still a skyline even though the specs are not the same =P just like how other cars evolved...It is still a skyline just a different chasis now. yeah I'm talking about the v35... the r34 is a skyline for sure :) to be honest I do like the tails of the r34 too, it's just... I like the others more :D and I have a model of an r33 at home :P

I like the hatch BUT the coupe is better for conversions as far as the whole completed look is concerned
