Ok heres the deal, i have a 98 Blazer 4wd. Whenever i start my car there will be this grinding noise. My friends say its more like a ratteling but id go with grinding. It wont do it all the time though. And its only when you start the car. Like if i first start it and put it in drive to pull outta my garage it makes the noise till i put the car in park again, and then theres times when it wont do it at all. Its seems like after the car warms up it wont do it anymore. I tried messin with it once when it didnt do it and i turned the steering wheel all the way both ways and everytime i got to as far as it could go, i would hear the same noise, so that got me to think maybe its the power steering pump. I checked the fulid and that was all fine so i think maybe its just the pump going but i dont know. Its deff coming from the front of the car. Somebody let me know what they think my problem is. Im sure some blazer owner has to had to come across this same problem.

did you check the belt? it can be the pump also you need to have the hood open ,start it and it make the noise, (if original belt it's time to change)

Wouldnt it make the noise all the time if it were the pump or the belt. Like would would it just stop after the car warmed up?

It might be your starter, either your flex plate or throw out bearing.
