electronic spark timing

i just bought an 86 se with the v6 for 300 bucks. it does not run but the motor turns. i grounded the diag. connector and the codes i was given were 33 and 42. 42 is for electronic spark timing. i have looked this up in my haynes repair manual and it basically says that the timing needs to be re-set. the manual says to start the engine to re-set the timing, but there is my problem i cant start my engine. if anyone can help me to figure this out, and get my car started i would greatly appreciate it. code 33 is no problem, i can get that taken care of. i just want my car runnig so i can see just how much fun they are.
