Enzo Interceptor & new book for photography

Well here is the Enzo just in case you haven't seen it.
I wanted to share what I learned from this.
I use a bronze marker for the front rim, the entire rim. I think that was a mistake because the marker should be reserved for the dark tones only. I should have just left the dark areas marker and then used pastel for the parts of the rim facing out (towards the sun) and most of the dish.
The back rim is color pencil; pls don't ask why I did that. It really jacked up the car's look. I should have used the same media as the front rim.
I tried something new. Pastel lays over marker vary nicely. For the areas of the rim that have shadows (front rim) I layered some brown pastel over it.
I applied some gray pastel behind the front quarter panel and it set it off rather nicely. For the logo I used color pencil only, next time I should use verithin prisma color pencils. Those are harder and with them one can gain fine lines and detail (what I read).

Ok the pict. above was taken with my 4.1 megapix camera and it looks 99% accurate compared to the original. I did it with some knowledge I learned from a book:
The Quick & Easy Guide to Photographing Your Artwork
by Roger Saddington
checked it out from the library
I used a tripod, 2 halogen flood lamps and took the pict. at night in my garage. I then removed the tungsten shade (yellow shade from the halogen lamps) in Photoshop. I was so amazed by the results.
Pls critiques are welcomed. I know I still have lots to learn and practice.
Thx for listening
Alfred

Thx Kermitt & Awags.
Yup, I was contemplating not putting a light bar on. I saw an old school Contach model car with a huge light bar so I thought I put one on my Enzo but use a slim version.

I do not think anyone could have noticed that, in fact even though you said it still does not seem to be distracting. How big was the drawing?

Thx Tokes99, Acoustic, Quarter_mile, CADguy, Metal
The car measures about 17 in. long and 5 in. tall, but the paper is larger than that.

This is an ENZO-BASED Maserati
Maserati took the wraps off its new GT racer, the Ferrari Enzo-based contender, codenamed MCC. The car is expected to make its debut in the FIA GT Championship during the second half of the year.

Hey asaenz, I love the drawing. I was wondering what the majority of the car is colored in, I know you used markers for the darker parts and you specified about the wheels, sorry if I missed it but I am trying to get into color drawings and was looking for some advice

It is mostly pastel. I have a tutorial it is not the greatest but I tried to include details into it. Canay has a good tutorial too. I mostly use information I learned from Thom Taylor's book How to Draw Cars Like a Pro.

My tutorial above proves that you need some kind of paper that has tooth to it or the pastels wont blend well. I used printer paper in my example so don't use paper that smooth. My cars are done on Bristol Vellum paper.

Hi Ghetto* you are right. I wonder why they didn't make a wing for that car. I used the wing from the F50 Ferrari (changed a little bit). I have always love that wing, how the verticle supports are so close.

:eek2: Wow, that's phenominal work. How did you shade the front end so neatly? did you edit it on the computor? I'm really interested in your drawings and it's hard to beleive you actually drew that.

Thx guys for the replies.
Mshkttck, the orig. wk has a pretty smooth blend. The digital image was blured very slightly to get it close to the original. The orig. looks a lot better than this image still. I need about 5 megapix camera to take better picts. Blur (computer enhancement) can turn a pastel work into a water color effect which is pretty cool. I have a green rx-7 that I did that to. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=96497
There you can notice a huge difference between my Enzo and RX-7. The seven is way more smoother and looks like water color.
The key to smooth blends is to use your finger for blending. 1st I blend in all the blue on the car and then come in with the black. It is hard to explain but it is in Thom's book. I also use what is called blu-tack to lift areas of pastel off the paper. Blu-tack is made in England. But at Wal-mart we have the same kind of stuff called Handi-Tak made by Super Glue Corp.
Take care
Alfred
