I am in the process of finding a new engine for an 86 CJ7. Its my baby and its killing me that I aint able to drive her. I had the 268'' engine but I want to see if I can find a more powerful engine that is going to require the least amount of mods possible. Id like a 308 but those are hard to find. If anybody knows what the word is, Id really appreciate it. Peace

I guess you mean you have a 258 (not 268) straight six. These engines had lots of power potential.
Its easiest to try some bolt on mods. I guess you have a carburetor and not FI. There was a company called Clifford that made manifolds and headers and cams for this engine that really help.
Otherwise, look for an AMC 360 or 390 V8, (although their 304 will do, they are all the same externally) and swap that in. Just get the correct engine mounts for that application. That is easy as these V8 s came stock in CJ's in the past.
