Orderd a Cold air intake and about to order exhaust...just wondering in order to increase my HP is it better to get a whole new exhaust system or would a larger muffler do about the same? im pretty sure a new system would be a lot better just dont know if its needed or not?

A cat back system from Magnaflow would be your best bet. It will allow better flow than stock and remove the resonators in the stock exhaust.

Another option is to get a high flow or straight through muffler and a high flow cat rather then an entire cat back system. This will be cheaper and you will be reusing your 2.25in exhaust tubing since it's going to be the same size as the one from the magnaflow cat back...
Magnaflow cat back - $500
High flow cat between $100 to $150
magnaflow race series for 2.25" $120
You'll save over $200
Performance difference? negliable.

that seems a little hight for just h/e. maybe some aftermarket camshafts and gears, and high compression pistons on top of that, you'd get that kind of gain.

yeah, with headers and exhaust you will gain maybe 15-20 HP max. The stock cam is more than adequate until you add some type of FI to the car.
Here is a good fix. go get a diamante intake manifold and TB. The TB is 68mm matched to the intake manifold. That will be a great addition that will allow for alot more power down the road.
BTW, how much would it be to rent a diamante for a day?

they actually do have a heder kit that comes headers downpipe and a high flow cat that they claim 30 whp on the dyno.

OK as I stated in my earlier post, get borla pipes, saw off the muffler/tip and get a muffler shop to weld the Dynomax Mufflers.
Here is a picture of how the Borla Catback looks like on a 3G V6...

See that tip? Get a muffler shop to saw it off and then make them weld a Dynomax Universal Welded Muffler. The shop guys will take care of all the fitting so your Dynomax will fit.
This setup could run you up to a thousand with labor, Shipping and taxes but it's the ultimate exhaust system for a 3G.
I consider it a Stage 3 Exhaust. You will feel the difference right away.

Check the ratings on all the sites and see what people say about it. In the end the HP gains wont be too far off. Each exhaust system does sound different depending on what you are looking for.
Now dont get me wrong Magnaflow is pretty decent, their pipes are usually big and big does not mean better flow, still they offer good performance. Some people think that if their exhaust is the size of a trash can they will get better flow but no that is not the case. They sound pretty good and yes they are cheaper then borlas.
They perform just as good as any system out there and I think the difference in a Dyno could be around 1-2 HP or even to the third decimal point compared to the other two. In the end it's the Dyno that will tell you which is the best.
It's pure preference as to what you want to add. Just choose something you think is good from what others have said then stick with it. Or if you are all about how your car looks choose something you think will look good with your car.

The statement nexaidiot posted is fine. You want reviews, you have them But keep in mind that HP and WHP is alot different. And also realize that reviewers get PAID to review. And some companies might just give them kickbacks for a better than average review. Ever think of that?
