Gear Shift Knob

I have a 2001 5-speed manual Silverado. Does anyone know how to take off the gear shift knob. I've asked the dealers if it just screws off and they don't know. I have tried to muscle it off but it won't budge.

Did you ever find out how to ge the gear shift knob off. I'm havinghte same problem with my 01 silverado. I called a few dealers and other shops and no one had much help to offer.
