I've always been aware of the 190hp h22a, but after searching around, I saw that there's a Type S h22a that's about 30 horses more? Do these drop right in the 4th and 5th gen like the 190bhp h22a or are they harder to swap?

yup, it will fit the same as other h22s. basically the same engine just a higher compression i think. the 5th gens h22a4 are rated at 200 so not that big of a differnce. For me its not worth the extra 2000$.

ok well i wanted to buy a JDM ront clip with trans. ect. can i drop the trans and engine into my 4th gen. without the atts? or do i need trans from a 4th instead of a 5th?

the 5th gen tranny will bolt on to your 4th gen without any problems.

i have no clue though, as to whether or not the atts fits in the 4th gens.

the reason why i was asking was because this guy at AMS (a performance shop near where i live)said the 5th gen trans couldnt becuase of the atts system in the trans, i only have a basic idea of how atts works but anyone care to explain in details on how atts works?

not all 5th gens had ATTS (only the type-SH's did). and as far as i know, ATTS was not part of the transmission itself.

anyway, ATTS stands for Active Torque Transfer System. Its designed to counteract the understeer that all FWD cars suffer from, and make the car have the handling charactaristics of a RWD.

you can't swap a SH engine into a 4th gen and not include the ATTS unit coz the unit is directly bolted to the tranny. the bell housing on the tranny is shaped to accommodate the ATTS unit. in other words, if you're going to swap the SH engine into the 4th gen, you better expect to include the ATTS coz where that engine goes, the tranny goes - and where that tranny goes, the ATTS unit goes with it. there's no way around it without some modifications. find yourself a base model h22 then you'll be fine.

i wouldn't waste my time trying to swap in a jdm h22. the type s doesn't come with ATTS anyway, but does come with a true lsd. damn you japan!! haha. and honestly, dont' even bother with the type s cams or pistons. fork out the money for jun's or skunk2 cams. even crower cams will do better.

I just put the j- spec h22 with lsd in, and the trainy is great, the type s is not that much of a difference, I wouldn't spend the money unless you had to replace your motor anyway, just mod the cams on your current motor

Del Is right Just get the H22a1 200 hp and upgrade your cams and cam gears and have it put on the dyno it will be way cheaper and you will have more power than the type S Later on if you want to get serious you can drop your compression and boost it or raise the compression for NA then just the raised compression pistons will have you Far past 220. you can prob get around 30 hp out of the cams and who knows with the pistons maybe 15-20 not to sure because i dropped my compression to Boost at 20psi. good luck!
