Hi guys.

I just joined this forum, as I just got me a 1983 A Reg, white, Porsche 944.

Bodywork needs a bit of help, but man its fast :)

My question is this ...

I only got the car yesterday, the car dealer said the the 'Gear Box Bushs' had gone, and that it was only £70 to fix, and that this was common on Porsche 944's ?

Basically I trusted in him, and I got the car, but man shifting into gear is hard, where 3rd gear is, its actually a bit more to the left, and 5th gear is miles away.

So is the dealer right, is this a common fault ? is it something I can fix ?

And where are the bushes for the gear box ?

I hope someone can advise me.

MANY thanks,

Matt :)

Ok well as far as i know from when i had my dads 944, the bushings were never a problem. Im thinking he ment the shift link bushings. If you pull off the center consol i think you may be able to see them. But it deffinetly can be fixed. Anything on a car can be fixed.

Sorry if i was no help, but i figured id try to make you feel a bit better cause it can be fixed. So dont worrie to much.

Hi Matt
Don't know if you got it fixed yet but the link below can give you another option.I have not done it yet myself and there are other shift kits available that don't have you getting under the car.
Mine was difficult ot shift to when I got it.85.5 944 N/A but I changed the motor mounts and the problem went away. I am sure your motor mounts are bad and you can chnge them at home. The write up is on this same site.
