My 98 Jetta has a 2.0 L and the check engine light is on, this car has an oil change, new air filter and always runs great. The code that is wrong with it is vag16795 and po411, I know that it has something to do with air injection system/ but i have no idea what it is coming from, I checked all the hoses and replaced some just incase.
Does anyone know what the problem is with this code?
ANY ADVICE?
Thanks

I had the Check Engine light shut off 3 times,2 times it lasted 24 hours and the 3rd time it lasted 2 hours. Does this have anything to do with the recently installed OEM style exhaust? AND how can I fix it myself? Thanks

We recently sold my wife's 1999 Jetta GLS for various reasons. One of which was the check engine light. Turns out the thing went through Oxygen sensors like a baby through diapers. We put five sensors in it in less than a year. After that along with fixing a sunroof problem, fuel pump relay, window motor, etc. we decided to get rid of it. From what I've seen, VW Jettas (especially 1999's) are pretty rough on O2 sensors. Good luck!

one thing you'll find about posting on the VW forum is that almost no one will respond right away, so give it time.
Check the condition of the sensor that is just following the airbox, if its covered in oil or other mucky nonsense, that could be the problem.
If the exhaust was incorrectly installed, that could also be the problem.

I assume this is an AEG code engine (sticker is on timing cover). Your secondary air injection system should consist of a solenoid valve (above the brake fluid reservoir), a four prong relay (at the left side of the engine compartment behind the air cleaner housing (near left headlight)) and an air injection pump motor (on the left rear side of the engine). Pump and valve are connected by vacuum hoses. Official VW test proceedure is lengthy and requires a breakout box & VAG scan tool. Over this forum I can only offer a few suggestions. With a little basic knowledge of how they work, all of these components can be tested seperately with a multimeter and jumper wires. The solenoid has two pins and should not be an open circuit, it should also allow air to pass through the hoses when jumpered (blue/yellow wire is positive, violet/red is ground). Always disconnect the electrical harness before connecting hot & ground wires to the units. The pump also has two pins and should pump air when jumpered (white/red wire is positive, brown is ground). The relay is a simple 4 prong relay. Red and white/red are connected when triggered. Yellow/black is positive trigger and grey/brown is ground trigger. Both the solenoid valve and pump relay are activated by the ECM grounds. Positive voltage comes through fuse 43, but I don't suspect it because it powers alot of other items & the car wouldn't be running if it were bad. If vacuum hoses and all components test good then you are left with a wiring or ECM problem. I haven't seen this problem commonly on 2.0 litres before, but on some VR-6 engines they will clog up with carbon deposits in the vacuum hose system, follow the hoses between pump, valve and engine to check for clogs & breaks.
