are the spoon engines really shitty ?

I heard on another board that those "Spoon" engines are shit ... not only do they cost a lot ... but the performance is lacking as well ...

the board said that for performance .. it's better to get a high class engine ... like civic dx - civic sir engine ... accord lx - accord ex swap instead and mod that engine ... for reasons of fuel economy, cost ... and durability ... ? is this shi- true ?

I thought that spoon was the best ... or is HOLLYWOOD making a plug for that company in Fast and the Furious ?

people have given me insight on spoon motors (crate motors). they are not as durable as you think they are. they require more annual maintenance than a basic b16, b17, b18 so on and so forth. put it this way, you'll be encountering more hassles than any of the honda-acure motors. it'll be an expensive hobby/project to keep.

Spoon motors are great, dont get me wrong. There durability sucks you dont just drive a spoon motor all over the place that motor was made for the track, not even 1/4 miles I meen you could do it but it wasent made for that. If your a skilled autocrosser and have the flow then the motor will work for you.

Spoon motors are great at what they are made for, when they produce Spoon motors keep in mind they don't exactly have the daily driver around when considering the production of these suckers, I recommend if you are a big Spoon freak like me just put some of the Spoon parts on your motor that you have, that works to :). The Spoon-spec engines are AWESOME, but too many people use them for reasons OTHER then what they are intended for.

They are NOT meant as daily drivers, or for forced induction. They are built to hum around 6-8K RPMs regularily, on a Road Course. They are road racing motors, NOT 1/4 mile beasts. The whol epurpose of Sppon tuning isn't to get Max HP from it and make it go fast in a straight line, as its purpose is to make the most of the powerband, have a wide torque band and overall durability to withstand prolonged high RPMs....

Hey, I spray the piss out of my shitty dx motor and its pretty fast for what it is and i have had no reliability problems spraying almost everyday for over a year. seems like a well built engine to me. oh yeah it has over 160,000 miles on it. don't get me wrong i'm just waiting for it to die so i can justify dropping in a gsr motor. but i still believe it is one of the stronger honda motors.

yee the dx's are nice. they may be slow but its still a quality engine

Those particular motors are built in consideration that they will be used mostly on a track.Plus Spoon motors are not that high powered because they are more for endurance races.You also have to remember that they don't have power because of road race classes like stock classes and what not.A stock B16A or a B18C is great for your average joe who has never had a motor swap done before.

Spoon Tuned engines are very well tuned from what I heard. If you get the recent sport compact car there is a spoon tuned hatchback in there and it is pretty phat!!!

The spoon motor is a great motor by all means...it's just not meant for daily street driving...in fact, you would kill the motor if you drove it on the streets. That's why it has such a high redline of 12,000RPM is because it is meant for endurance races and only that. It would be nice to have a spoon motor but good luck doing 150MPH down city streets.:finger: :hehe:

Can someone please list the specs of the Spoon Motors. All I need is HP@rpm, torque@rpm and redline numbers. :) Thanks
