i heard that chipping s4's can be great, but i also heard that it can do some damage to the turbos. does anyone have any insight on what the deal is with the chips?

That's not true. The chip raises the boost and advances the timing, improving gas mileage and performance. The only thing that will ruin your turbos is not taking care of them properly (like old or low quality oil). If you're looking for a chip, check out Boykin Racing.

One guy said that if the chip isnt very good, it could spin your turbo at a higher rate than what is recommended causeing the turbo to go out, this would take some high mileage though

A friend of mine got an APR chip installed. The only problem that came up was replacing his diverter valve. It had cracks in it after the first week. As long as the chip is tunned to the car properly you should see only positive performance like Horsepower and torque gain.
