Hey there  , my names Kari, and I'm a 21 year old lady from Ecorse, Michigan. I'm here because this week, or next I will be purchasing my first Ford Taurus. :bigthumb:
In November 2003 I bought a 2000 Ford Contour SE Sport from a dealership. This month, January 7th 2004 while my car was parked in the front of my house, some drunk idiot smashed it :chair: , and I found out this week that they are totaling it out.
I've spent the last week looking at cars, and have finally decided that a 2001 - 2002 Ford Taurus would suit me well. The style of the body is really nice, and the interior is quite roomy compared to my Contour. Plus the Taurus has a lot of nice options that my Contour did not have. :)
I've been looking at the SES model, and the SEL model.
Can someone tell me what the difference is between the two, and which one would you recommend? My dealership that I go through is getting some more Taurus's in on Wednesday, and I'm not sure which one I may want to go with.
Any information about the Taurus would be nice. Do they get good gas mileage? This is somewhat of a concern to me, being as I drive 30 miles each way to work, everyday.
Well, I don't want to keep this long, so I'd better get going. I really look forward to getting to know everyone, and hopefully learn some more about the Ford Taurus! :)
Thanks in advance!

Hi! I'll try to help in some way. We have a 2000 Taurus, we bought used in late 2000. It has been pretty much a low maintainence vehicle.
Gas mileage fair, 20-25 depending on travel.
Biggest problem is the ever so famous "BOO switch" on the brake pedal. Ours didn't go out, but the wires to it broke off. When it first happened, we didn't have brake lights--when the pedal was depressed. Also you couldn't get the gear shift out of park. After we discovered what the problem was, and repaired the wires to the BOO switch, no more problems with that.
Other problem is gas gauge, it doesn't tell the true reading for fuel in tank. It will show empty one second, and the actual reading the next, never showing true reading.
Other that these, no major problems.
It goess well in all terrain. I'm not sure what your weather is, we have snow and ice, and it goes well.
Something I don't like, is the way the radio is set-up. There are buttons for a CD player. Dealership said some models come with stack in trunk. Ours didn't. They told us that the raido controls are "basic" for either with or without CD stack.
Would I buy Taurus again? Sure would. Planning on it for next vehicle.
Hope this helps in some way!
Bill
