Burning smell coming from under car

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this,

I have a 96 grand am SE, lately it's been acting sort of funny. There's a strong burning smell coming from underneath the car close to the left side, I'm guessing it's the left side because i can also feel vibrations in the floor with my foot. This happens as I accelerate. The car is also louder while accelerating. When I change gear into reverse and start to move a creaking sound can also be heard. I would really appritiate some opinions as to what this may be, thanks in advance; your help is greatly appreciate.

You might want to take a few minutes and look for any breakage in your exhaust system, that could explain the vibrations and the sound increased when accelerating, or check your transmition oil. I had a problem on an '85 chevy where my transmition was overheating, and burning off the tranny fluid which gave it a burning oily smell and gave off vibrations and jitters when moving, and a little metal grinding creak when changing gears, and impared acceleration.

Mike have you found out what is wrong with your car yet? Mine is kinda doing the same, but mine also has hesitation and idles high
