Rattle from exhaust on 2001 Chevy 2500HD

Hi all...
I have a 2001 Chevy 2500HD with 71k on it. It has an annoying rattle coming from the exhaust(?) system underneath the right side of the bed. I'm fairly certain that's where it's coming from. It's only when the truck is given any power, right before the auto tranny is shifting, usually, although last night it was doing it intermittantly while idling and while going slow down through a bumpy lane. That's the only time it has done that, though--the rest of the time, I have to give it gas in order for it to make the rattling noise. Then it will shift and the rattling will stop.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?
